Considering green for kitchen walls.

Hello

We’re nearing the end of a major renovation project. We’ve done almost all of the work ourselves to keep costs down. Kitchen arrives next week so want to get walls painted prior to kitchen going in. The cabinets (wall & floor) are cashmere and island is a very dark green. Quartz worktop.

Ive gone down a billion rabbit holes trying to choose a colour and still can’t decide. 😭

id be very grateful for any advice. Bonus points if anyone could share a picture of your kitchen with green walls!

Thank you in advance.

My advice is to consider the amount and type of light the kitchen gets. There are so many shades of green, and the lighting can make a huge difference. We bought a house and the kitchen was bright and sunny with pale green walls. In the evening the colour was so different, it was a bit like an aquarium and the effect was cold. Quickly changed that to a pale slightly beigy olive green which worked much better.

@Nicecatneighbour Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m finding it incredibly difficult to decide because at the moment it’s just a big ‘ol empty, white room. I’ve got green samples all over the walls and still finding it tricky.

Aquarium is definitely not the look we’re aiming for! 😆

If possible I would get in painted AFTER the kitchen goes in.
There will no doubt be scrapes etc when it gets fitted, plus you will get a better idea of how it all looks once its in
I was going to go with quite a dark green in my kitchen but changed my mind and went much lighter once it was in

In my experience, if the room has south facing windows the light tends to be warmer than if north facing, so ive used warmer tones in north facing rooms. Also, your cashmere coloured kitchen sounds like warm tones. I'd try to complement those rather than contrast. If you aren't sure, I'd go with something neutral on the walls, then add colour with accents. Looks nicer, and easier to live with than strong coloured walls.

I don't have pics, but we painted the walls of our kitchen green back in 1998. It was a William Morris green that's no longer available (came from John Lewis iirc), so a fairly dark 'mid' green, similar to F&B Breakfast Room Green. It matched the Fired Earth tiles we had behind the range perfectly.

We had cream shaker cabinets including the island, teak worktops - except on the island which was the then-on-trend granite - and cream skirting etc. It was a large space, formerly two rooms, with original built-in dresser at one end from its days as a semi-basement servants quarters, so it did lean quite dark which we liked as we were going for the victorian scullery vibe 😆

We still like dark colours (we're doing the kitchen in our current cottage Edward Bulmer Pompadour, an almost burgundy pink), but if I was choosing a green for the kitchen today I'd probably go for something more in the olive family.

Can you share an example of the green your island will be @maldivemoment?

Not our kitchen (obviously!) but this will be the colour of the island. Our floor is like this too. Colour of the cabinets is cashmere.

Hope this helps @LibertyLily

F&B Cooking Apple Green is a lovely warm, yellowey (not bluey) green.

Growlybear83 · 10/02/2026 11:31

I’ve got pale lime green walls in my kitchen, and I think that sort of colour would look lovely with a dark green island.

Ours is Bancha and Cashmere, and we did one wall in Bancha, and the others in a Dulux paint we roughly matched to the Cashmere units.

Ooh, Bancha is a bold choice!

ETA: Oh, you meant for the island. Nice choice for that. Would have been a bold choice for walls!

My kitchen is 'Cromarty' by Farrow and Ball. It's super all year round especially at Christmas when I decorate.

Greenkitchenwalls · 10/02/2026 16:12

We went for greeny/grey on the walls with dark green cabinets and a white marble worktops. It's just wrapped as we didn't want to replace the whole kitchen, just a refresh. The paint is Scarborough Fair by Valspar. It looks quite grey online but very greeny/grey in real life.

It's quite bare in the photos, obviously we will put up some more on the walls etc. Also planning to change the lighting and the flooring but not sure when we'll get round to that.

I've tried to add photos but nothing happens...

Edited

Yeah, for the island and one wall (and that wall has a lot of cashmere units on it to break it up).

I hankered after a Little Greene paint in a green shade for ages... looking at the website it might have been Boxington or similar. Anyway, ordered a tester pot, all seemed fine. By the time the entire kitchen and utility room were done, it was renamed Chest Infection Green and I've hated it ever since. I'm still searching for a non-sputum adjacent shade 😫

maldivemoment · 10/02/2026 17:19

@WorstPaceScenario this is my fear!

My kitchen was small. It was a very basic kitchen. I had Peppermint Patch from B and Q Valspar range- lovely. Used this for getting my kitchen ready for house sale. I'm going to use the same colour in my new house

maldivemoment · 13/02/2026 11:42

Update; we’ve gone for Dulux Trade Timeless.

Thank you all for responding to my plea!
