I love it and see it as vintage rather than old fashioned, but think it would only work in an old house or with decor to match, not a modern style.

TheCurious0range · 25/01/2026 08:17

We have something of a similar ilk, our house is Edwardian and I don't like very modern fixtures and fittings. We also have nearly 10ft ceilings and lots of modern things are very low and look odd. We got our bathroom suite from Burlington who have some nice heritage style pieces. I like they also offer height options we went for the taller options because of the ceiling height issue but also because I'm 5'10 and DH is 6'4 , didn't think anything of it until my 5ft mum visited and said her feet don't touch the ground on our toilet!

TheCurious0range · 25/01/2026 08:19

As for cost I don't even remember how much ours cost and I've never wondered about the cost of anyone else's sink

BoshyGirl · 25/01/2026 08:20

I would think that this is a basin in a Victorian house with period features and old fashioned style. It looks like a period film set. I would think thank God there is a mixer and the separate hot and cold is just for the style of the era. I hate separate taps as I wouldn't wash my hands in the basin.
I can believe it to cost £100 or £800 because I know that bathrooms have a wide range of styles and budgets, something simple could be so expensive and something ornate could be cheap, my immediate impression is that it's a period style rather than ooh fancy.

crumpetandcoffee · 25/01/2026 08:20

I really like it!

The reason for doing this is that the current one has two taps and apparently the only way to modernise it is to replace the whole thing. I might post a picture of what is there now

Oh I see. Don't think I've ever seen a basin like that!

How have you never seen a sink like that? Its a standard late victorian/edwardian style that many of us have, they're in restaurants, hotels, pubs, magazines.

Friendlygingercat · 25/01/2026 08:35

I love vintage. I would see this in an Edwardian or WWI period house - certaily pre 1940s. I consider it plain and classic and obviously the rest of the bathroom fitments to be en suute.

Pantalone · 25/01/2026 08:37

This style is still very popular- looks good in a Victorian house whereas more modern styles can look a bit odd unless done well (and the same goes for traditional bathrooms in modern houses).

I wouldn’t think anything at all if I saw this, it’s completely ordinary. I also wouldn’t assume anything about the price- all styles are available at all price points.

Freesiapleaser · 25/01/2026 08:48

I love it. And I would put it in a modern house (but not a modern style bathroom) because I like it and I don't really care what others think about my house. They arnt living there and my house is to make me happy.

Dumdidums · 25/01/2026 14:13

The house was built before 1900 but as i say the question is more whether this is a sensible amount of money for that sink.

OP posts:
Pantalone · 25/01/2026 14:31

It’s a pretty middling amount of money. If you’re on a budget I’d get the cheaper sink and spend more on the taps- vitreous china doesn’t vary much but cheap taps are always poor.

i can afford it but i need to point out that it doesnt come with taps

If you can cope with an offset tap, it might be possible to swap the separate taps you have now with something like this, and put a blank in the empty tap hole.

I recently did it with myself (a more 20th century style basin) and it was pretty easy

Furlane · 25/01/2026 18:56

It reminds me of something you’d see in an old B&B, complete with patterned carpeted floor. I like period pieces, but this looks like a modern interpretation of one and looks a pain to clean. It’s sort of cheap and cheerful style I would look to eventually replace.

didgeridid · 25/01/2026 18:59

I would of have a quick "oo that's a fancy sink" then not think anything of it

Sofado · 25/01/2026 19:09

Beautiful classic design that would be great in a Victorian or Edwardian house.

HappyFace2025 · 25/01/2026 19:15

I used to have this sink in a house that was built in the 1950s. It was lovely and large.

SumTingWongwithme · 26/01/2026 06:21

ThrowingDi · 25/01/2026 00:34

No, it’s a very outdated design. I’d assume it is pre-renovation, not post renovation

It is not an outdate design it is a classic design fit for a period house. OP I really like lit, maybe some Burlington taps would go nice with it or DeVOL also do some lovely brass ones but are a little bit pricey.

It definitely is outdated. You might like the look which is fine, but the majority of people seeing that could want to replace it. It’s not classic by 2026 standards is it?

This sort of period look is hugely popular. Have a look at the pictures here - first image shows a sink just like this design.

It’s like old lady names like Mabel and Ivy- they seem outdated if you’re over 50 but have been fully embraced again by younger people. People are ripping out those awful “modern” square wall-mounted loos and vanity units that look like filing cabinets, and putting the traditional stuff back in 😂

Its a period design. They dont date

Its like saying a medieval cottage is 'dated'.

Mosaic123 · 26/01/2026 16:41

I'd think, where is their bathroom storage?

They need a cupboard under the sink. It's a good use of space.

Unless you particularly like all your products out getting dusty they need to be put away.

BreakingBroken · 26/01/2026 16:54

I like the concept of space around a sink. Easy to clean soap residue etc.
It’s really a specific period design and needs to be carried throughout the house imho.
