How to toddler-proof this radiator?

Hi, new foster carer here, about to look after my first little ones, so am ensuring the house is child-proofed for a toddler and a baby. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can best do with this radiator? I'm less concerned about burns, as unlikely to have it on when the child is in bed, and it doesn't get hot, only warm, but more concerned about the sharp metal edges and corners, with it being so close to the head end of the toddler's bed, in case of falls / bangs. I'm getting those rubberised edge-protector strips for other surfaces in the house but not sure whether they'd be suitable for here, so if anyone has any genius inspiration or recommendations for what they have used on radiators like this, I'd be grateful! Many thanks.🙂

Have you been asked to do that? My only protection was a fireguard and stair safety gates. Oh and covers for electrical sockets although I don't think that's done anymore?

I have toddlers and I wouldn’t worry about that radiator. Have you been asked to do it? In your case I’d just move the bed guard right up to the top of the bed, by the pillow, so they can climb out of the bottom (this also stops beloved soft toys falling out in the middle of the night!

I think you might be being over cautious but see where you are coming from. A radiator cover has as many edges to bump onto as the radiator but might be a bit less sharp.
I think I'd just put a folded towel or small blanket over the edge near the bed for now.
Hope it all goes well.

Is it actually sharp? All our radiators are like that, and I dislike them for other reasons but they're no sharper than any other kind of radiator. You can get covers that go over them if you would prefer though - you have to check the depth as a lot of covers aren't deep enough for this sort, but some are. But I think that's more of an aesthetic help than a safety need!

Wishing you the best of luck with your first little ones!

This is what I thought too.

sounds like you'll be a lovely foster mum!

I just hope your nerves can take it xx

Depending on how your window opens, I'd be more concerned that the storage box next to it could be used as a climbing aid. Depending on the age and dexterity with opening windows, that sounds a bigger risk than a bump to the head on a corner.

Most people have radiators and babies/toddlers and don’t do anything. I do see your point about it being close to the head of the bed but my solution would be to move the bed guard up so DC gets in/out from the foot of the bed so not near the radiator. They’d also be less likely to roll out that way.

Excellent - thanks everyone for the reality check! I'm probably being overcautious because (a) it's my first time fostering and (b) the added complexity of taking responsibility for someone else's children and all the legal & safeguarding liabilities that come with that are making me overthink. (I spent 25 years as a local authority lawyer so my brain is very much primed for 'where there's blame there's a claim'!). If it were my own kids / when I've had family or friends' kids in this bed I was definitely not so hypervigilant! I'Il move the bed guard up, put a blanket on the corner of the radiator, and chill out a bit! 😂
