It doesn't clash, in my opinion. What colour is the paint?

Cornishbelle · 20/01/2026 12:17

Dulux pressed petal in matt. Apparently a close match to farrow and ball sulking room. I was wondering to go slightly lighter or maybe a soft sheen rather than flat as it's a high traffic area. It just feels grey and cold at the moment.

I think it's lovely, and I like it slightly better than sulking room pink! Definitely will warm the space instead of grey. Looks fine with the paper.

Wapentake · 20/01/2026 12:39

Sulking Room pink is far pinker than that, though - a sort of muted ruse.

It's fine with the wallpaper, but it's not going to warm or brighten up a cold hallway, if that's your primary aim in changing the paint. What aspect does the hall have, and how much light does it get?

Yeah, I agree that a sheen could be a good idea – even a gloss.

If the photo is from your hall, it looks like the brown elements are really coming out – in which case something similar to F&B Pink Ground could be surprisingly good in the space, much deeper than it seems on screen, and it would go with the wallpaper (I think loads of colours would work though).

LibertyLily · 20/01/2026 15:02

I really didn't think that was a pink till you mentioned it @Cornishbelle. It reads like a vaguely pinkish taupe on my screen and definitely looks a lot less pink than F&B Sulking Room Pink imo.

Perhaps it's better in real life, but if you're trying to warm your hall, I think you need to go more obviously pink - in our snug we have Edward Bulmer Nicaragua which is less muted and probably too pink for your requirements, but it's a very warm/cosy colour. Ditto the considerably darker Edward Bulmer Pompadour we have in our dining kitchen.

Have you tried a sample of Sulking Room Pink? Or what about William Morris at Home (Dunelm) Poached Rhubarb?

Is the image posted the right colour? As I used pressed petal once in my living room, and it was nothing like the image you've posted. It was a very dark pink, could pass as an awful dull dark brown in the wrong lighting. I wouldn't use it in a hallway. (I've since painted over it in an actual taupe colour).

Imo no, but it can be made to work depending on the room furnishings. Like maybe incorporating other various chocolate tones or something. Via things like lamp covers. But I think it would be easier to do in a livingroom than a hallway.

I don’t think this will be as bright as you’re expecting. I’m about to replace white mist with Egyptian cotton because I want to warm up our house. I’ve had Egyptian Cotton in another property & it sits beautifully in all lights.

Thanks for all the replies - I do feel a bit out of my depth to be honest never been great with decoration!

The hall has an east facing large window, also a glass panel at the top of the front door which faces north (the hall is like an offset T-shape).

The same decor needs to go all the way to the second floor, so middle and top landings as well as two flights of stairs. The middle landing has an east facing window, the top landing is internal only, so no natural light. I'm at a bit of a loss how to suit all these areas! Upstairs often feels too warm but downstairs always feels chilly.

The main aim is to warm the space, I'm open to other colour suggestions, keen to keep the existing paper though which is on one wall.

The photo is of one coat painted on the light grey existing paint on the wall nearest the middle of the hall. I've not tried any other samples yet think I need to try quite a few it's a big job and I don't want to regret!
