Has Anyone Ever Removed Their Glass Splashbacks Or Painted Them

My glass splash backs in my kitchen have been up for 10 years and I have really gone off them now. Ideally I would love an easy fix like painting them but is this even something you can do?

The other option would be to remove them but they are really thick heavy duty splash backs so not sure how easy that would be.

Has anyone ever updated their splash backs to give me ideas please.

Removed ours in a previous house as it hadn’t been sealed at the edges and little flies kept getting behind the glass and dying 🤮

Replaced with a tiled panel, was much happier.

I have seen tinted/ coloured glass, paint or wallpaper behind clear glass as well if it’s a colour change you wanted.

I’m thinking you’d have to spray it if you wanted to change the colour as surely brush painting would leave brush strokes or the paint would ‘sag’ given the panel is vertical, unless it could be removed and laid flat.

It’ll be heavy of course. You could look at buying new in the same size to get an idea of the weight?

If you wanted it off and think it’s too heavy for you to manage ( I’m assuming you have no help ) cover it with a few layers of cling film before you hit it with a hammer.
If you buy a new one or as a pp said , replace with tiles, the tiler would remove it for you.

We had colourful patterned wallpaper behind ours - a deliberate choice, not something done after living with them for a while though. Agree with @Defiantly41 that the edges need sealing to prevent ingress of small creatures 😉

I wouldn't paint - would not trust the finish to last. I absolutely would replace though. More stylish than tiles and so much easier to clean. We've had ours 20 years now. One needs replacing as it wasn't sealed properly. The others are all perfect (6 in total - kitchen/bathrooms/utility). One was originally tiled as DH didn't really trust glass. He has been converted and we'll be changing that one to glass when we redecorate the room.
