Help Me find a sofa suitable for a teenage Bouncer

As in someone who bounces on the sofa.. lol

DS is 19, and autistic/adhd, the sofa we were using in his gaming room was a piece of conservatory wicker type furniture and it's now broken/unfixable.

We need to replace it.

There are some.. obstacles.

It has to go up 2 flights of stairs, one of which is half width to a mezz level.. one banister is open, but it needs to be 'liftable' iyswim, if it won't fit on the stairs specifically.

IT need to be bounce proof.. i'm thinking one of those cushion style sofas that goes on the floor/no legs/kind of affair? then DS can't break it in half...

the budget is about £300 max.

Look for solid foam heavy use for adults with autism. That what mine have got. Its the only thing thats stood up to the beatings.

i'd put a single mattress up there if i could get away with it, but it needs a back to lean against really!

Yes you can get solid foam furniture, chairs, sofas, etc.
Ours came through my younger son's OT.

Your other option would be a mattress on the floor with a thick piece of foam or a padded headboard drilled into the wall behind it.

I would try a rocking or glider chair. Might give the sensory seeking movement needed

ChillingWithMySnowmies · 12/01/2026 12:29

he's not keen on rockers, he doesn't like how they move when he gets in/out, he's definitely more of a bouncer.

This. They are called boneless sofas and come in a much smaller box shrink wrapped .

What about those foldable foam sofa beds? Easy to get up stairs?

WhisperingAngelisnotbad · 12/01/2026 12:38

I have an autistic/ADHD teenager. I also have a foam sofa bed, originally from habitat, that is completely ripped across the cushions from bouncing on.

If anyone knows of a bombproof sofa, I would be very interested also.

There is a company called "Tough Furniture" that produces stuff for special schools etc, but that might be a step further (and more expensive) than you were expecting.
