Extension lead detachable help!

Whatwudyoudo1 · 06/01/2026 12:49

Does this exist
I need an extension cable to fit into my wardrobe where there is a power socket, run the cable through a small hole to plug things in.
I dont want to be faffing around with re wiring a plug, just want a cable with a detachable extension element to it.
Anyone please!

I imagine if there is, it's much more prone to being a fire risk. And given that you want it in a wardrobe, that's incredibly dangerous? Somewhere more knowledgeable might know though.

The boiler and power socket are in the wardrobe

Do you mean the whole is not big enough to push the plug or extension sockets through? It's really easy to wire a plug. Disclaimer I'm quite old and remember when appliances came without them so it was a skill everyone had to learn.

Hole obviously

Whatwudyoudo1 · 06/01/2026 14:29

Ok, im sure i could give that a go.
Is it a moulded one i want to avoid?
Yes we made the hole big enough for just a cable to go through

I've just checked a couple of extension cables and none are supplied with moulded plugs so you should just be able to disconnect and rewire.

We've done this a few times as we have a UK extension cable with a European plug on it and vice versa.

you have to take of the plug, put the cable through the hole then rewire the plug. otherwise the whole setup won't be safe. that's how it works.

I do have a couple of leads that detach in the middle, my laptop and some Christmas lights. I've not seen extension leads that do though.

We have a socket sized hole in the side of the wardrobe for this reason.

Make a bigger hole and fill it with a cable grommet?

Yes do this, we had to make a hole for a dishwasher plug in our kitchen work surface so we just bought fairly matching cable grommet off Amazon to fill the hole, you also need a drill attachment maybe to get the right size hole

Wiring a plug would take you hardly any time at all. A few minutes tops.
