Wall panelling on one wall only

Floor-to-ceiling panelling on one wall of a room - yay or nay? I need it on one wall, to cover up a lumpy wall, but it's too expensive to do the whole room. Could I make a feature wall of it, or would it look odd, do you think?

It totally depends on the room and the look you're going for. Do you have any photographs you could share?
You could also consider plywood or plyboard and then paint or paper it.

I’ve only done it on one wall of my bedroom. I like it, but it does affect where I can put the furniture

@OuiOuiMonAmi panelling has been very on trend in recent years, so virtually everyone seems to have done it, to the extent that some are saying it's now over.

Our last-but-one (early Victorian) house had an Arts & Crafts style extension added about 70 years after the original house was built. It had some painted panelling that dated from that period but looked like it could have been done yesterday. We loved it because it was very much part of the Arts & Crafts aesthetic which we are fans of.

Our next house - a 400 year old, non-listed mill - had a room very lacking in character, so in 2018, influenced by our previous house, we decided to add some period detail by means of a fireplace and a wall of floor-to-ceiling panelling. My DH - who restores old buildings - built this from scratch and deliberately made it a bit wonky so, when finished and painted, it looked as though it had been in situ for 100+ years.

If you love the idea of panelling and are not slavishly following fashion/plan to rip it out when the next trend comes along, go for it...but be prepared for some posters to say it's had its day!

Thanks, all. Yeah, I couldn't care less about trends, so that part doesn't bother me :) The other main wall will have floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and the remaining 2 walls have window/furniture, so I there won't be huge swathes of unpannelled wall. I think I'll go for it. Thanks everyone!
