So as the title suggests I've not decorated my flat since I moved in over a year ago. To be fair when I moved in its all neutral all the walls are painted white. Now we are looking at doing 1 room at a time and I want to get the bedroom done 1st.
Its not a massive room but I want to get it wallpapered as opposed to painted just to make it a little bit cosier.
Anyway my whole life i have always gone along with what others wanted and agreed due to years of dv ive never made my own choices so I dont know what my taste is when it comes to home decor.
Now its time to make decisions on what I want I dont know where to start.
Just to give people an idea ive got grey wardrobes and grey curtains although these could be changed (the curtains not the wardrobes) and a black leather bed.
I just dont know where to start so if anyone could help with ideas I would appreciate it so much.
Thank you if you got this far.

I always choose a picture I really like for the wall, and then pick up on the colours in that for the rest of the decor.

When I divorced, I was exactly the same - my xh had an unusually large amount of home decoration preferences and so I went along with it for an easy life. I bought a small bowl several months after I'd moved out and felt both rebellious and terrified as I wasn't used to buying things without running them by him (and being told no). My style now is best described as 'eclectic' but I just buy things I like and paint in colours that make me happy. I'd start with bedding maybe - buy some you love and see how it goes from there.

What’s your favourite colour maybe start with that grey wardrobe and curtains are quite neutral. Take your time browse on Pinterest. I spent a lot of time last year just browsing through for ideas on room colours.

Yeap I do this too. Purposefully sometimes, accidentally the rest of the time 😆

Have a look on Pinterest for bedroom decor ideas, start saving pins/pics of what draws to you, and go from there.

The hardest part is getting started!

It's easy to paint over something or swap things out too so don't worry too much about getting it not quite right first time. Thats how you get better at interior design.
Is there a room anywhere that you like that you could use for inspiration? Like at a friend's house or one from online?

Thanks all for your replies and helpful responses. I was looking most of last night online and took some screenshots of some ideas. Also ordered some sample swatches which are coming next week so hopefully I can get an idea of what my style is going to be. Its just mad that all these years later something as simple as choosing home decor is literally crippling because of something that happened over 12/13 years ago.

Take your time choosing the bedding maybe go somewhere to see it in person. Dunelm have a big selection of dorma bedding that’s pretty decent. They often have them out on display so you can feel the texture and quality of the fabric before you purchase.
John Lewis also have a big selection too I always like to see what I’m buying especially if it’s a big purchase or none refundable product bedding often being in that category due to hygiene.

@Anon543210 I wanted to say I was very similar, bought my home about 25 years ago, went very neutral as was renting it out. Fast forward 10 years, moved in and just didn't know what I liked. I also was a victim of DV so my home was a reflection of how low i felt inside, like i wouldn't bother about myself, let alone a house. Now, 25 years on from purchase, im slowly doing it up, so much more blues and coastal vibes. I tried thinking what made ME feel happy rather than what would be safe. I realised blue was the answer. Anyway, try Dunelm for how they arrange their decor, agree with things like bedding as a start as there is so much choice there and John Lewis. Use Pinterest. Accept that mistakes may be made but can be rectified easily.

If you’re unsure jeep things simple and use pops of colour with cushions and blinds/curtains and lots of plants always bring a room to life! If you have space go for a giant plant!

I love the advice here! Wholeheartedly agree with the idea of picking something you love as a starting point.

It could also be useful to think in terms of the mood you want in a room, rather than how it’s an expression of your taste. Loads of things will go with black leather and grey furniture but if you want your bedroom to feel calm and restful, you’ll choose very different colours and textures to what you’d pick for a sultry hotel style. And wanting serenity in the bedroom doesn’t mean you have to carry that through to a living room where everyone hangs out together and you want more of a fun, lively vibe.

Whatever you end up with, I hope you have fun getting there – sounds like you deserve it!

Its so weird you mention blue because the colours I have gravitated more towards have been blues from duck egg to dark blue I dont know what it is there just something that feels really calming about it.

I cant really do things like potted plants as I have 2 very scatty cats that have mad half hours and a 1 year old French bulldog constantly having zoomies so I never can keep anything nice low down or even high up coz the cats are little buggers and thug life everything so I cant even have nice candles coz they'd no doubt set us all on fire 😂😂
