Which paint for living room? Little Greene Masquerade, F&B Setting Plaster or F&B Red Earth?

I'm deliberating between three colours for the two walls on living room. All paintwork is white. Furniture is teal (sofa) and cream (large chair in photo) with teal-y rug.

Have attached two pictures showing paint painted on paper on the walls, left to right:

  1. Little Greene Masquerade - a dark plaster (like this but may be too taupey)
  2. F&B Setting plaster - a pinkish plaster (I think I like it....)
  3. F&B Red Earth - an orangey terracotta (love the orange warmth but worried it may be too dark)

Pictures don't show whole living room but hopefully give you a flavour. Any experience of these colours - would love to know your thoughts!

I really like RedEarth with your furniture. Could be too much as whole room?

Setting Plaster is also lovely . I have a similar colour in my sitting room and have not regretted it. It changes nicely in different lights and is airy yet cosy.

Agree red earth works well with your furniture. Dd has settling plaster in her bedroom and it’s lovely

Mamamia35 · 26/10/2025 17:58

Red Earth gets my vote.

windygallows · 26/10/2025 17:58

Thanks @CrowMate I have a lot of dark orange throughout my house. It would be on 2 walls only. The third wall is a built in and the room opens to the kitchen so there are only 3 walls in principle.

I want to be bold but don't want it to be too dark and oppressive.

Red Earth all the way, the chalky Farrow and Ball finish will be fab in your room! We have built in’s painted in Red Earth and Dimity on the walls, we’re always getting compliments from anyone who visits.

Be bold; Red Earth.

I've always loved Setting Plaster. We had Masquerade as a tester on our hallway wall for ages but in the end went with something else as it seemed a smidge too pinkish in our light. I really like the Red Earth too and would lean towards that I think.

I've just bought new teal furniture in thick lush corduroy. Absolutely love it.

DeedlessIndeed · 26/10/2025 22:08

I've got setting plaster in my larger airier lounge and red earth in the snug. Love both colours.

Personally, I love the red earth in your setup. It is so cosy and warm. I've got a beige sofa and curtains but a silk cushion in the same colour as your sofa and it really pops (if I say so myself). Also pale blues and citrine yellows work well in that room.

We went for Ancona Blue, I read that it was very relaxing in a sitting room so we went for it. DH treated himself to one of those ergonomic chairs for his bad back.

Setting plaster, I had it in the sitting room of the last house that I had and it is a fabulous colour

I have recently painted one lounge wall ( chimney breast and two alcoves ) in Red House by Morris & Co. I love it. The room is south facing all other walls are slaked lime by little greene. Sofas are navy blue. It looks similar to the Fired Earth shade.

Thanks so much for all your comments!

For those who had/have Red Earth on their walls, I'm just wondering if it appears more red or more orange? I'm not keen on red and ideally looking for something more orange - orange, however, is a bit of a tricky paint colour (can be too fluro/bright and harsh). I like that Red Earth veers to terracotta which gives the colour some warmth - I think!

I think it really depends on the light. We had setting plaster in a North facing but very very bright kitchen (3 huge windows) it was definitely pale pink. Nice, but not very sitting roomy I think.

Chewbecca · 27/10/2025 09:03

The red earth definitely sets off your cream and teal furniture much better. I love it.

LibertyLily · 27/10/2025 09:48

Red Earth works best with your furniture etc imo @windygallows.

I do love Setting Plaster - we colour drenched the large, east-facing bathroom at our last house with it where it was a barely distinct pink. I think it could potentially be too pale for your room.

We decided on pink for our cosy snug here, but felt that Setting Plaster was too pale as we wanted a deeper, more saturated tone, so have opted for Edward Bulmer Nicaragua which I'd describe as a dirty pink and DH calls 'earthy'.

I'm actually in the process of painting a small Moorish style lamp table in Red Earth (using a sample pot). It's definitely a lovely, rich colour and I would say it leans more terracotta/orange than red.
