Fabric for new sofa - where to look/ brands?

We finally found a sofa that we like - it’s comfy and it’s handmade in Britain. But we don’t like any of the fabrics from the showroom. Where do you go to shop for fabrics. They do allow bespoke upholstery but I’ve got no idea where to start looking for that. Has anyone done this? And if so, where did you go?

Jane Clayton website is a good starting point to see a huge range of fabrics.

Ideally though, you would find somewhere with a load of fabric books and have a look through, as online isn’t nearly as good as seeing the fabrics in real life.

Does the sofa showroom have any fabric books? Often companies which allow bespoke do have a few. Or is there any sort of interior design shop near you?

John Lewis?

Another vote for Jane Clayton. Also Haines Collection - they sell off loads of leftover designer fabrics etc in varying quantities (plus other lovely stuff). Recently I've bought lots of large (6-9m) remnants on eBay at a fraction of the original cost, so if you have something in mind, that's always worth a look too.

You can get some samples from Jane clayton

But it’s better to go to interior designer or fabric/haberdashery to view the different fabric choices.

Jane Clayton has a great selection. I would focus on Liberty and Mulberry. I also really like the RHS fabric collection.

Thanks all, Jane Clayton looks good. I do wish you could look in the fabric books as you said @minipie . I live in London and we’ve got family in West Yorkshire which was of course an old textile hub of the country. I just want something in neutral colour that might have a bit of weave to it like a herringbone or boucle, but with a toddler and a baby it needs to be family-proof. And I don’t like the look of that clever velvet.
