Bedroom furniture / layout suggestions please

Hi
Looking to get updated furniture for our main bedroom. Usable space is limited by a really wide window (1960s property) that goes nearly the entire width of one wall, and 3 doors in the room. So it’s only really one wall of use and a small length on the opposite wall - but depth here is limited as we need to get past!
We’ve got over-bed storage at the moment and would quite like to get rid of it. Planning to get an ottoman style bed so the stuff that’s in the overhead storage can go in there. One of the doors goes to a small hanging space but we could do with a bit more hanging space and lots of shelves and drawers. We’ve got just over a metre each side of the bed - don’t really want to shift the bed too much off centre but also 2 tall slim towers of wardrobes either side might look daft.

Grateful for any suggestions or even recommendations of ranges to look at.
images of current layout attached.
TIA

I don’t have any furniture suggestions sorry OP but wanted to compliment your diagrams!

I’ve been spending far too long looking at Ikea hacks lately & have noticed that cupboards over the bed seem to be making a comeback.

Move your radiator to under the window

DaisyDayz · 14/10/2025 21:10

How much space is there between foot of the bed and wall? Our bedroom is really similar to yours in layout; we were able to fit a very wide wardrobe opposite the foot of the bed and move the radiator beneath window as pp suggested.

This worked better for us than over-bed cupboards as our window actually ends too close to the bedhead (so a wardrobe at this end would overlap the window so we’d have had to have something custom made - too expensive).

Ottoman definitely. And try IKEA Pax range. So many options for any size space and a range of doors and handles to suit most tastes

BeKeenAquaBeaker · 14/10/2025 22:02

Thanks all, and yes definitely up for moving the radiator. About 85cm from wall to bottom of bed so not enough for deep wardrobe but maybe one of the pax shallower ones with sliding doors. We don’t need much more hanging space, so a front to back rail would work and lots of shelves.
The current setup does come out further than the window - they are so ridiculously wide!

Can the rad go under the window and the bed switch sides to where that is now? That gives you a whole run of wardrobes on the wall where the bed is now.
Definitely get an ottoman too, we all have them here now, storage is vast compare to the old divan with drawers.

Can you have built in wardrobe instead of the 2 hanging cupboards and airing cupboards

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 21/10/2025 08:28

The cupboard with the hanging rail and the airing cupboard, could you make this into a semi walk in wardrobe? I'd move radiator to under the window if possible. I have an ottoman bed and ikea malm drawers either side with the glass tops, and we have a double cupboard built into the wall with mirrored doors.

You don’t have to use the cupboard with the hanging rail. You could put a run of wardrobes on that wall all the way up to the airing cupboard.

Another vote for moving the radiator to under window. Our bedroom is very similar to this (with a ridiculously larger window too!) We then have IKEA wardrobes made to look built in nearly the full length of the wall at the bottom of bed.

AnneButNotHathaway · 14/01/2026 06:57

Moving the radiator is a good suggestion, definitely do it. You can try a furniture arrangement app to visualize the room better and add the measurements as you'll need to know how much space you'll have left and whether there are ready furniture options to choose from or are you willing to get something build for you specifically.
Large windows are nice in theory but then there is a whole another problem of finding fitting curtains and working out the layout plan.

Oh, just saw it was actually an October thread!
OP, have you completed the planning? What did you do?
