Posted a little while ago about a mirror & got such good advice I’m back!

We have one living space in our house. We don’t have a playroom or enough space in the kitchen for a couch or toys etc so everything is here.

So I’d love any advice at all on how to improve it and make it feel more relaxing to be in.

Thinking of getting some IKEA Beats units for where the dolls house is and also get an L shaped couch.

Any ideas at all inc couches appreciated!

Cut down the toys. Kids get overwhelmed with choice. If you have a cupboard or garage, store toys in there and bring out one toy at a time.

Find a sofa that has storage boxes underneath.
Buy a seating bench with under seat storage for under your window.
Store toys in a garage and under kid's beds.
Visit a toy library and borrow toys often. You will cut down on the number you buy. Another idea is to take a number of unwanted toys to the op. shop and bring ONE toy home.

Thanks so much for reply. Don’t have a garage or cupboard space elsewhere that’s why I was thinking of a sideboard with Besta cabinets so I can store jigsaws and games.

For neat storage, IKEA Kallax units are great and you can get baskets which look a bit more grown-up.

If it was my room, I’d get rid of whatever that seating option is under the shelves in the first photo, and the additional chair, and I’d replace with a love seat or 2-person sofa. I think that would look less cluttered.

I would then look for a storage option for the stuff on the white bookcase that isn’t books (like Kallax), and potentially put up some shelves for display items. The under-seat storage option is also a really good idea - IKEA do those too, it’s basically a toy box and you can wheel out the drawer but use it as a seat.

On right hand side is a piano. Good idea re getting rid of chair, I’ve thought that too about it looking cluttered so I’ll either get a new 3 & 2 seater sofa or get an L-shaped one. Probably a L shaped one so we can have people over comfortably which we can’t do currently.

I have a Kallax upstairs for the kids clothes, great but a clutter magnet for us. The Besta units are appealing as they have doors!

The built in shelves look underutilised, especially the ones above the piano. I’d get some nice baskets that fit on those and use them as storage. You could also get a nice squishy ottoman to go in the middle of the rug, which also opens up so you can store things inside it; it’ll help with making the room feel cosy too.

This is the room in daylight.

So far thinking get rid of bookcase, put 3 IKEA Havsta units on that back wall.

Fix the seating situation, overwhelmed by the thought of sofa shopping.

Get rid of more stuff as I’m a hoarder especially anything to do with my kids. Have 2 - DS(7) and DD(5) so have boy & girl stuff but they don’t need that much of it!
