Before I buy lots of testers…

I thought it best to ask for your help in an attempt to save money on tester pots! We are repainting our south west facing open plan kitchen diner. We are hoping to sell next year and it needs a refresh. It’s currently clinical white, and has always felt cold! I’d like a warm neutral (not grey). My friend has recommended Paper Library- Canvas 1. It seems silly to buy such expensive paint in the circumstances. Can you recommend similar colours but in a less expensive range please? I know now not get the same finish but that’s ok.

I like Crown Professional English Muffin. I've used it lots.

A bit dark and pinkier it Dulux Soft Stone. Also very nice.

You could take a look at a website like this, which will allow you to compare specific paints. I don’t know if it works for that specific brand but worth a look.

Thank you for the suggestions. English Muffin looks nice although possibly a bit lighter than I’d like. I like the warmth of soft stone although would like something a bit more biscuity/linen look if possible!

Thanks. It doesn’t work for the Paper Library paint but does for lots of other brands.

You can’t go wrong with Egyptian cotton in my opinion it looks so different in different lights. I love it.

Since you're selling, you want what's most popular in your area. See if you can check w with some estate agents about what buyers in your area like these days and then get an inexpensive version of it.

F&B Joas white, mixed at decorating centre online. Shade lighter is Dimity which is also nice!

JaninaDuszejko · 05/10/2025 10:20

Do you have anywhere local that colour matches with Johnstone paints? That would be cheaper than buying expensive paint.

@tangobravo thanks, I think both could look lovely, although F&B also fairly expensive. @JaninaDuszejko thanks, there is somewhere local that does that. So I could test a couple of the F&B colours (and maybe one or two of the others that have been suggested) and get colour matched if I fall in love with it!

Yes it's very expensive! We get it colour matched at DCO but you can also do it at a Johnstones(?) if there's one near you.

@24Dogcuddler thanks. I can see why it’s popular. I like it. @tangobravo thanks.

ok, I have some great suggestions here. Thanks very much. I will try some of them out soon and report back when I can!

Hello, I just wanted to update on the colour I chose. I tested natural hessian, natural calico, Egyptian cotton (all Dulux) and Joa’s White and Dimity (F+B). I went to the shop to have dimity colour matched for me and bumped into a local painter and decorator who persuaded me that in a big space, with lots of light, Skimming Stine would be lovely. Soon a bit of a whim, I had it colour matched there and then. I am really pleased with it. It’s warm, neutral and a light taupe colour and isn’t grey in my space! Thanks for all your recommendations!
