Thinking of sofa replacements, but where to start?!

My current sofas are 22 years old. They have been brilliant but really do need replacing now. I find the idea of looking for another sofa/s really overwhelming so I would love some advice on where to look.

My priorities are comfort and durability. I want something you can properly sink into but that will stand up to daily use. Not wool though. At one point a few years ago I did buy these sofas from Next, made of wool, they were unbearable to sit on!! Thank goodness we didn't get rid of our original ones because we had to give the Next sofas away.

The fabric needs to be sturdy and not delicate. I am looking for decent value rather than top end designer, but I also want something that will last more than a few years.

I have a cat who goes wherever he likes. People will eat their dinner on it. There are no small children in the house anymore, so fewer spills.

If you have recommendations for brands, shops, online options, fabric types or specific models you rate (or ones you regret buying), I would really appreciate hearing them. What would you choose and where would you start looking? Thanks!

We got ours from Sofology - they also have a damage guarantee which covers pet damage.

I am on the look out for replacements for my 32 year old Tetrads.

Looked at getting them re-upholstered (you can buy new for a lot less, but been told the frames are excellent, as are all the padding except the main cushions).

Have trailed around so far, Natuzzi, DFS, Sofology, SCS, Furniture village and 3 independent stores and John Lewis, Fenwick..... none of which I found anything I liked or kept comparing to my Tetrads. Some in the major stores were truly awful, so poorly made and so uncomfortable to sit on, one store was like stepping into a black and white picture, everything a different shade of grey, making it difficult to imagine a full sofa in any other colour.

I am travelling to look at some new Tetrads that have just come out, also a local manufacturer. Its a slog!

We liked the range of options and quality in Barker and Stonehouse. You need to go in person to a store with their range as they didn’t have all options online.
There was a good range in Darlings of Chelsea (awful name sorry) with helpful colour sample swatches.

We looked in Bentalls centre Kingston as well. Furniture village worth a walk around.

We have sofas from Boconcept in their Frisco easy clean fabric, it's amazing! 2 small kids and you just unzip the covers and pop them thru the washing machine, they've survived poo and sick, biro scribbles, greasy food marks, a major beer spillage🤭, and more.... Can't comment too much on longevity because they're only 5 years old but look as good as new so far. The fabric isn't cheap tho and their sofas might be too 'designerey' for you , but we found their customer service were amazingly helpful in talking us through the options and finding the most suitable choice for us, and gave us a really good discount in the end when we just couldn't decide whether to splash out or not!

I'm a fan of Tetrad and Sofas & Stuff. However have some patience and keep looking at Facebook Market place. Amazing sofas come up on there. Ensure it's a private individual though not a company.

We have just replaced ours with Parker Knoll Amersham range . We bought through barker and stone house .

Our sofa is a Parker Knoll bought from a local independent furniture store. Very comfortable, and supportive. We have had sofas from DFS before which were OK, but not in the same league. It's worth paying a bit more.
