What colour curtains will match my lounge?

I have blinds so the curtains will just be for show. We have dark wood flooring and tv unit, dark brown and beige sofa, beige/natural rug and have gold/brass and black accessories, I am struggling to find a pair of curtains I think would match, if I go black will it look odd but at the same time if I go beige will it also look odd. I’m useless at decor, please help. Walls are white (rental not allowed to paint)

I would not match. Your scheme seems a bit - well - dull. I’d go for texture and interest and look at something a bit more interesting. I’d ditch black accessories I think.

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/09/2025 11:46

I would go for a pop of colour as all seems dark.

If you upload a picture of your lounge to Chat GPT you can ask it to show you what different colour curtains would look like in there ☺️

Agreed. It sounds like a peculiar room.

OP I was going to suggest a dull or dark gold colour for your curtains.

Olive green

I’m attaching some Harlequin fabrics. I think green accessories would look good. These are deliberately earthy tones and I’d look for a a paler version for the walls.

How about a mustard/gold tone in a heavy weight fabric?

Something like this

Gold is more difficult to accessorise in my view. It’s a bit in your face as a colour and “glam”. Personally it’s a no no and I think a more earthy tone would look great.

Pink is a nice contrast to dark brown. I'd try a dark pink damask.

TizerorFizz · 13/09/2025 12:29

Why a damask? If op pained the room a pale terracotta and got better accent colours, it would be a very up to date look. Use these colours. I’d avoid bright anything!

I was thinking damask so it's a flat interesting textured surface not something like Velvet that would be a bit too Laurence Llewellyn Bowen!

TizerorFizz · 13/09/2025 12:42

Damask is pretty flat. It’s like a table cloth. Woven textures are better like a tweed effect or a cut velvet. They are expensive though. The tweed style woven fabrics are better priced.

TizerorFizz · 13/09/2025 12:48

These are expensive but have some a subtle pattern or texture.

I think you need some colour to be honest, would a turquoise / teal type colour go with it?

Benshawsberries · 13/09/2025 12:51

A nice green would go very well

Not necessarily. I have dark mustardy gold velvet curtains in a casual room with lots of natural wood, a kilim on the floor and walls painted F and B Dead Salmon. Definitely not glam.

TartanTwit · 13/09/2025 13:02

...or a burnt orange maybe? I do think a bit of colour would be attractive against a dark wood background. I had a floral dark brown and orange print Sanderson wallpaper with other cream walls and burnt orange velour curtains (from Argos no less) it was a cosy look.

Readyforslippers · 13/09/2025 13:07

I think a deep dark green would look lovely with that scheme.

TizerorFizz · 13/09/2025 16:41

I love Dead Salmon and Setting Plaster F&B but not with gold. Sorry. It’s not a look I see very often. More restful looks using darker accessories or wicker would be great.
