Tiny en-suite??

I have a 4ft by 5ft space to be converted into an en-suite. Am be I likely to be able to fit a shower, sink and toilet in that space without it being uncomfortable to use. I could put the sink in the bedroom but would rather not. Thanks for any thoughts

I have an ensuite which is 1.8m by 1.2 m and it's tight. I think that is 6ft by 4ft.

My shower is 90cm by about 75cm and that's the only thing that could be smaller. I have a wall hung sink with no storage underneath. My builder fitted the wall cabinet into the wall cavity to save space.

Can you do it as a wet room? That way you wouldn’t need an enclosure.

You could get one of those toilets with a sink built in on the cistern. Often used in downstairs loos.

Are you married to the idea of an en suite? I hate them (and I know MN is very divided on this) and a tiny weird one would really put me off. But if it’s your forever home, and it’s your dream, google ‘tiny home wet room’ and similar for ideas. Definitely go for a wet room not a shower enclosure and a sink and a toilet in such a tiny space.

You’d likely need a corner shower (possibly a sliding door or bi-fold to save space), a compact or wall-hung toilet, and a small corner or slimline sink.

It will feel tight, but not necessarily uncomfortable if you choose the right fittings.

Assuming the measures work, go for a floating toilet & sink to create the illusion of space. Probably would also go for a clear glass shower screen with as little casing as possible.

We have 1.2m by 1.2m and it is very tight but we have a shower, sink and loo. The shower is a square based shower with two bifold doors which can fold completely out of the way to access the loo. Tbh. The shower is not all that comfy to use unless you are a small adult or a kid but the loo is very useful. Might it be worth just putting a loo and sink in yours? Or a sink and loo?

My only bathroom is that size so I don’t see why not

Cadenza12 · 07/09/2025 10:28

Sounds a bit cramped. I think that I would go for a loo and a sink

I'd have either a sliding door or one which opens into the bedroom. Shower at 1 end and toilet/sink the other. Some info on here too https://www.renovatewithreno.co.uk/help/adding-an-ensuite-bathroom-to-a-small-bedroom
