Curtains for Edwardian living room

I am struggling to find good quality curtains for my living room, hoping someone can help me! I need a pair of curtains suitable for an Edwardian living room that look quietly luxurious. Budget under £1000. I have looked at John Lewis, Dunelm and linen curtain shops (online) so far, but would love more recommendations of shops in and around London or online. I still don't quite know what I want, so looking around at the moment!

my place is victorian, so big sash windows.
i bought a pair made for my bedroom with free black out offer and 25% off from 247 curtains. Width was 180cm & Drop was 240cm.
I am or so I thought hopeless at measuring up and knowing what I needed to do.
They have a videos and instructions on how to measure and advice on tab tops, pleats ect.
i got lots of free samples, once i had decided on about 3 colours choices .
Im so pleased I took the plunge and ordered the curtains. They are beautiful and better than I could have imagined. I was sure I’d fluffed it up..They are perfect ! Cost less than £500 . If I’d got them made locally it would have been £1500.
check them out 1000’s of fabric choices and I got samples posted and they arrived within 3 days!

I meant to say, Google Edwardian interior curtains, will give you an idea of colours and styles .

If you just want plain curtains, check Ikea.
Some of their curtains are actually quite nice. You can invest in nicer fittings to give the look you want. I have their curtains in my bay window with brass rods. Luckily my ceiling is not so high, so they fit just right.

Edwardian house owner here. I've got dark red velvet curtains in one window and William Morris print ones in the bay. I think the bay window ones were from John Lewis, but both are heavyweight, 20+ years old and still look good.
I would recommend getting corded tracks if they are quite tall windows.

Curtains for a big window are so expensive. You could look at designer's guild but your budget may not be enough.

I spent ages trawling on eBay. I didn't want luxurious - just acceptable - and got some for a hundred quid, but I did see loads of really posh ones from country house sales on there that might fit the bill. You can filter by size.

Thanks all. I will check out these suggestions.

@MagpiePi could you share the link again, it doesn't seem to work. I have a Morris&co large rug so was thinking I need the curtains to be quieter, but something colourful and velvet sounds great if I can find it at John Lewis.

Luckily the standard sizes should fit the window, so hopefully I can find it somewhere!

Oh, I didn't put a link in - it must have been automatic. The curtains are 20+ years old so well before the internet was thing so unlikely to be on the JL website! I wouldn't be surprised if velvet curtains are out of fashion tbh, but I think they go well in an Edwardian setting.

I did think that you could look on ebay too but you might have to wait for something to come up.

MagpiePi · 21/08/2025 08:20

Actually, JL still do them!

MagpiePi · 21/08/2025 08:22

And they have William Morris print ones
