Cream shaker kitchen

So we’re doing some building work to make a big kitchen diner by converting our garage. Current kitchen isn’t too bad, relatively good quality with pull out larders and corner storage etc. so we are wondering if we can change the handles and rearrange it a bit.

But I just can’t get over the colour. It’s a cream kitchen but I think it’s a bit yellow-y rather than a soft kinda cream. It is quite a dark kitchen at the moment but after the building work it’ll be a lot lighter - maybe that will make it less yellow?

If we got another kitchen we’d get a shaker anyway but I’m just not sure I’m convinced by this cream colour. Can anyone convince me? I’ve attached photos.

Ive searched on Pinterest to try understand the vibe I could be going for but really really struggling. Can any here convince me it’s ok? Or got any pictures they can share?

We could just get a new kitchen but it’s actually in good condition and reasonable quality so part of me just can’t do this as it seems so wasteful. Another option I think would be to keep the carcasses and get new doors.

Get it sprayed?

Is that easy? I’ve read mixed reviews on that and the quality of the paint sticking to the kitchen.

Looks pretty cream to me! Though obviously if you don’t like it, you don’t like it and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

What colour are the walls and the rest of the kitchen decoration? That can make a huge difference to how a colour looks in a room.

10 years old Howden, we fitted, black granite worktops, pink walls - I find the doors versatile in colour and pick up colour from surrounding walls, floor.

I just think maybe I could like it but struggling to imagine it in a new setting if that makes sense, as I like other cream kitchens on Pinterest but struggling to envisage our one.

Tiles and wall colours is brown and cream tiles and cream painted walls. I think that combined with the darkness of the room are what makes me hate the colour. But then I don’t want to change tiles and pint etc. and still hate it.

This is nice, I’m just convinced the shade of cream we have just is a bit too yellow/dark your me look a lot lighter but it could very well be the surroundings in our kitchen making it this way.

change the handles! The wooden handles make it look very country cottage- if you swap for a metal I think it will completely change the whole vibe!

I painted mine (by hand, not sprayed). It does chip, but I used F&B so that's on me. This stuff, which I used in our utility, is rock solid. www.thepaintshed.com/brands/benjamin-moore/scuff-x?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=21872760949&utm_content=169908811596&utm_term=scuff%20x&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21872760949&gbraid=0AAAAADsVaRE7fTH6Ci2WezuP3VN9emp4M&gclid=CjwKCAjwtfvEBhAmEiwA-DsKjmhUyBszbTsv3UQqJs9_mXhS758dTMIeY0m6vofpOxxv9xb52vVjwBoCIaYQAvD_BwE

Is that your kitchen? It looks really nice!

It could be, so I asked Chat GPT to keep the units but replace with granite worktop, different tiles, different handles. So I think there is potential to work with what we have :)

It isn’t yellow. That Howdens cupboard is similar to Farrow and Ball slipper satin or school house white (between the two). It’s good.

Gymbunny2025 · 18/08/2025 07:38

I really like your kitchen. And cream is very ‘in’ atm! Not keen on the floor though

outofdate · 18/08/2025 09:15

I would change the handles and paint the walls a soft pink. That will reflect beautifully.

Snowinsummer · 18/08/2025 09:18

We got really nice reasonably priced handles from Yester Home for our new kitchen. I’d bought some ones previously From The Anvil but needed to spend a bit less.
