Patio advice. Cost and style. Is 9k reasonable?

Had a quote for 9k for a 27m2 Indian stone patio, including removal of a tiny existing one and a small retaining wall.

What do you make of this cost?

And

I am thinking of getting cobbles instead of sandstone to try and make it cheaper. We have a cobble drive, which I love. But around 3 sides of the house.. would that be too many cobbles?

DH did our patio in Lockdown with assistance from DS and myself, ours is probably just over half that size and it cost him £500 in Indian Sandstone. Appreciate its 5 years ago, it wasn’t difficult to do though.

That's good if you can DIY and save money. Wouldn't know how to attempt ours with it being raised and needing the small retaining wall. It's hard to know what price is reasonable. Every corner of the internet says something different.

I would get several quotes & take it from there. They vary hugely.

We had some patio work done, about 25 sq metres, we paid £2500 labour and purchased the slabs ourselves, this was 2 years ago, they took up old slabs, plants and went down about 8 inches and made area flat, they then put down layer of sand and flattened it, that took 2 of them 1 day, next day they laid most of the slabs, one cutting, one laying, took 1 1/2 days, so no more than 3 days total, no more than £4,500. I would go back and say you’ve had quotes for a lot less and see what they say.

Thank you, this is helpful to know. Yes we will do. Definitely need some more people to tell us what they can do and how much for.
