Hello, I am looking at colour combinations for a period house. I need a colour for the walls, a neutral like calico, white for woodwork and maybe a brown for the floorboards.

Any ideas please? I’ve got the F&B colour chart in front of me but I’m not good at interior design. Thanks.

F&B have schemes on their website. Choose a neutral you like on their and then scroll to the bottom and it will suggest accent colours for woodwork etc.

If you go to the F and B site, it'll suggszt combinations that work- usually including a white etc.

For the amount of money you’ll be spending on paint, it is worth getting the colour cards, a roll of lining paper (or cheap painting canvas) and some tester pots. Check the colours in all conditions/lighting.

You don’t give any detail about type of house/direction the rooms face, but I am in a SE/NW facing Bath stone townhouse and painted all my woodwork in Pointing.

It is warm, rather than cold toned.
I had some kitchen/utility room cupboards painted in Dimity about 18 years ago, which I continue to love (that is a sort of calico colour).

@Madcats Pointing is nice! What colour are your walls and floors please?

I have a fireplace in their French White - it’s almost the colour of double cream and is v v warm toned. There’s an E/SE window facing it and it always looks really warm.

The others are plain B&Q’s cheapest white but one has a gorgeous paper on it from
the range, with bronze & silver tulips on a white background (looks better than it sounds, I promise!). The fireplace is on this wall and it really works with the bronze.

I have Tanner’s Brown on some exterior woodwork and it’s lovely, it has a very pretty red/almost purple undertone - if your space is quite bright that could be lovely on the floor, maybe with Stirabout and Joa’s White or Dimity? It could be a bit dark if there’s not plenty of natural light. Do you definitely want to paint the floorboards, or is staining them another option?

If you’ve got an F&B shop near you, they’re always really helpful in there with colour advice. On the website there’s also a tool to virtually paint your room in a colour of choice - it can’t do a whole scheme but is a useful starting point!

Thanks @biscuitcat . I have looked and there’s a F&B shop in Marylebone, so I’ll go there tomorrow.
