I’m thinking of getting a new front door as mine is a bit gappy.
I like the look of the solid composite doors. Has anyone had one installed recently? I’m North East area.

We have had quotes for the exact same door ranging from 1.8k to 4.5k 🤣

Our complete job was £6k - not entirely sure what was included in that Blush H reckons the front composite door was probably 500 but I suspect that is an underestimate.

We're in the NE too. Used Simon Cowan who trades as Winlock based in C-le-S and were very happy with everything.

Wow - for just a front door?! 😳

Can anyone explain why they cost so much please? They seem wildly disproportionate when compared to other house upgrades and work. What is it specifically that means they are so expensive? We could do with a new one, but out of our reach at those kind of prices!

Security. Really solid and multi point locks
Long lasting and low maintenance - no fading, no repainting, etc.
Warmer - thermal efficiency.

I was quoted roughly £3.2k today for a Solidor with 2 sidelights including installation. The door I really liked was an aluminium door which would come to - hold your breath - around £6k. All numbers include VAT. I havent tried to bargain yet.

Ours was £1.5k two years ago in the south east.

I think that mine was £1,500 (Wales), because it has a small window in it and locks that I don't need keys for on the inside. The matching back door was a bit cheaper without a window. You would not believe the difference it has made in keeping the house warmer, and making it easier to sleep without the internal doors rattling because of a gap under the previous front door! Also, it will never need painting (I'm all for low-maintenance upkeep) and it doesn't swell and stick when it decides that the weather is too hot or cold. Prior to the installation, my dogs and I were struggling to get in and out of the house!
