Long Living Room Layout - Help!

Hi,

We’ve got a long living room that I’m just not sure what to do with!

I’ve attached some pictures - please mind all the toys - they will be mostly going into the conservatory when we redecorate

The only thing we’ll definitely be keeping is the fireplace - everything else is up for replacing

What would you do to this room to make it flow better? We’re a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids aged 3 and 13, and a dog) and I’d rather not have the tv above the fireplace

all advice welcome and appreciated - thanks x

How practical would it be to move the fireplace further up
flip the current layout

This is very similar to our living room. We have it arranged a bit like Ilovemyshed suggests above. TV is in the corner by the window, and chairs are arranged around the tv, with the sofa side on to the fireplace. It isn't ideal though. It makes the route from the door to the conservatory (kitchen and staircase in our case) just a corridor really. We have a piano and a sewing desk there too, and we walk between them to get through, but it does section off the space. A big rug also helps to make it feel "zoned".

We are getting architects plans to move the rooms round a bit because we find it so difficult...

Our living room we like yours when we bought our house. It had a long living room, which had doors to the kitchen at one end. It had previously been two rooms, that the vendors knocked through. We reinstated the wall, which have us a front room, and a kitchen diner. Works really well for us.

Can I ask how much this cost? I know costs will vary around the country but we're in the same position and I'd love to re divide our room!

I have a very similar layout and have divided it into two functional zones: a seating area on one side, as shown in the attached photo from Pinterest, and a reading nook with an armchair and reading lamp on the other side.

It was part of a larger project, so can't remember exactly. The studwork and materials was about £850, with plastering and skirting on top of that. So probably about £1700? This was a few years ago though. We're London based.

Make it into two areas. So yes move the telly and have it all around the fireplace, then at the back have another nice chair and the toys if still needed.

Our layout is similar but without the fireplace. We have the telly and sofa end, a long sideboard instead of a fireplace, and then the fish tank and a big chair. Makes it feel a little like two different spaces.
