Installing decorative cornice costs

I appreciate this is very niche.

I would be grateful if anyone could give me an idea of how much they paid for installation of decorative cornice work? I have a room 4m by 4m and have been quoted about £3k. it’s decorative but not incredibly detailed. That might be the going rate but just wanted to check with others. I have two children under 2 so going round places for more quotes is difficult.

I am in Scotland if that makes a difference!

thanks for reading

We paid a little over £1,000 for a room 4.2x3.6m with a simple cornice, supply and fit (not painted), but in London which I would expect to be a lot more! (We actually did the whole house but this is what we paid for the room closest to your measurements).

That sounds like great value! Thanks for your reply. I might get another quote.

@Laurabeee I didn’t realise it at the time but I suppose so! It also included cutting around a bay window and a fireplace. Good luck with your search!

Woweee. That’s expensive. I am just doing a room at the moment and wanting to put cornice in. I have watched YouTube videos and it really doesn’t look that complicated. More just time consuming if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Have you looked at the material price?

Laurabeee · 29/07/2025 21:06

Yes, material price would be about £650. I know this as you can buy it from their website. They do have some cornice to remove but even so it seems a lot. I think they probably are quite expensive but they did another room for us on the past and they are very good.

We did the whole house in 2022 and it cost us £5000. It's an Edwardian house so the rooms are well proportioned. The design is fairly simple, nothing ornate.

Downstairs- Kitchen diner + living room + dining room + hallway + cloakroom
Upstars- Three bedrooms + corridor

We had one vendor quoting £10,000, so please do shop around (email).

We removed cornice and fitted new ones in several rooms in our house. The fitting wasn't actually that difficult, but because the one we removed was wider than the one we were replacing it with there was lot of making good, and that took ages. How decorative the cornice was didn't make too much difference, what slowed things down was 'quirky' shaped rooms (eg, around fireplaces, and rooms that weren't perfectly square), and also rooms with wonky walls. Sorry, that doesn't really answer your question, but it might give you an idea to what might be influencing the quote.
