Wall and carpet colour suggestions to de-grey a living room

We are redecorating what was a warm light grey living room. We need to keep the grey tweed mid century sofas and grey patterned curtains but will change the carpet and walls. I’m naturally inclined to play it safe and go neutral but perhaps should be considering colour on the walls (yellow? orange?) if I want to stop the grey being the dominant theme. But then what colour should the carpet be? Please help with ideas to stop me playing it safe with Dulux Timeless! The room faces southwest and has a high ceiling and bay window so lots of natural light.

Oh it sounds like a really lovely room. Would it be practical to have something like this? https://kersaintcobb.co.uk/product/pampas-berber-loop-41/

Otherwise, I know it’s not for everyone but a gold carpet with pure white walls and maybe almost-black trim could be striking in a way that feels more aligned with your neutral leanings and is in keeping with the mid-century vibe.

There are some really bold golds or others that are kind of the end of the beige scale, like this: https://designer-carpet.co.uk/35190/manx-tomkinson-plains-marigold

Oh I never thought of a gold carpet @Offcom Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought of colour on the walls and a neutral carpet (this is why I need to ask for input from other people!)

Yellow on the walls would look lovely but so would most colours in a room with those light levels. I’d also look at pinks - maybe something like Setting Plaster (Farrow and Ball) or a lighter version.

Are you wedded to carpet or would you consider engineered wood? That would look lovely with the sofas you describe (but appreciate you may prefer to stick with carpet).

I would be inclined to pick some fairly neutral flooring and experiment with colour on the walls, as it’s an awful lot cheaper to change wall colour than flooring if you decide it doesn’t work!

Thanks @ThisCatCanHop- we have wooden floors at the moment but it’s draughty and increasing fuel bills have made us think carpet might be a better option for staying warm but solvent. I’m considering orangey pinks as you suggested but it’s tricky as some seem to me to veer perilously close to 1980s peach (which with grey would remind me of my parents’ house when I was a teenager!) I think I need to invest in a lot of sample pots and try them in situ rather than judge them on website pics though.

Thanks @carpetsonline We went another direction in the end for the walls (duck egg blue) but did get an oatmealy Berber carpet.
