Can anyone help me identify this plate? My husband bought it yesterday for £3 and is convinced it’s worth more. I think it’s just a souvenir from Spain and probably worth £3😂 google isn’t helping.

Definitely looks Spanish. The lower part says pintado? a mano = hand painted. The top bit is hard to decipher but the SXVIII means siglo 18 = 18th century. But I don’t think a real 18th century plate would have that written on the back!

I wld go with no as well - its the hanging holes that give it away for me

Although Google lens thinks otherwise: “The image displays the back of a piece of Henriot Quimper faience, likely an assiette (plate), identifiable by the signature and markings”

I don’t think it’s Quimper, I have a Quimper dish and it’s clearly marked. In addition the writing is in Spanish. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@drowsyi agree it would be strange to have that on there.

I guess it’s a modern replica of an 18th century design.

DeSoleil · 22/06/2025 21:25

It’s a reproduction plate, not of any great value. The kind sold in Spoils (Kitchen reject shop) in the 1980s.

If you look closely at the edge you can see the blue paint decor doesn’t line up perfectly with the scalloped edges.

It is still a pretty plate, though.

DeSoleil · 22/06/2025 21:26

The date on it is 1705 but that is an indication of what it is trying to replicate and isn’t when it was actually made.
