Good Morning

I moved into my permanent home in February after a 9 year wait in temporary accommodations with my 2 SEN children.

Does anyone know of any organisations that help with flooring. Its a health and safety issue but the council said its my duty to fix issues and provide flooring. With inflation its difficult to do this in my situation.

Does anyone have any constructive advise to give please?

Thank you

(Wandsworth Borough)

Some councils give grants but I assume yours don't or you don't qualify? Have you tried family fund? They could offer you a grant if you need carpet because of the kids needs.
If not then you can fit lino yourself and it is possible to buy it reasonably cheaply. Cheapest way to do carpet is to buy roll ends. There are quite a lot on this website https://designer-carpet.co.uk/remnants then if you go to a local carpet shop or ask on Facebook then you should be able to find a local carpet fitter who can fit a carpet for £100-150 ish per room including underlay and grippers.

We don't have carpet in several rooms because we are saving up and we have been in for 7 years so it isn't a health and safety issue.

What sort of flooring are you after? Some carpet shops will have off cuts that might fit some of your rooms. If you fancy laminate do you know anyone who could lay it for you? X

Hi thank you for that. Carpet for 2 small bedrooms and a tiny landing and the stairs, laminate for the hallway and tiny section at the front door 😀 I know of someone that could lay it.

Also. Congratulations on your new home. It must be so lovely after such a huge amount of time in temporary housing!

Congratulations on your new home. I would visit carpet shops most will have carpet roll end remnants at the fraction of the cost. I’ve done my bedrooms this way and saved a lot of money.
