Furniture arrangement with diagram

The room is small. The door opens into the room, which is frustrating. there’s a big window at one end that takes up almost the entire wall. I don’t have or want a TV, but there will be a (fake) fire place with an electric fire and a framed photo instead.
I haven’t got much furniture for the room yet, and unsure wether to get a second sofa or just have one and an arm chair?
I’m unsure how I would position any furniture, I want something that feels right and cosy.

Best advice is live in it for a while and then you will know what works for you.

It’s about time I ask for advice. I have lived here for two years, and I am still indecisive

What's the big gap along the nearest wall, is it open plan with another room? I'm really confused by the picture!
Could you draw a birds eye view drawing, showing the window, door, fireplace, any furniture you currently have?

Re the door opening into the room, surely that's normal. Or do you mean it's hung on the wrong side? You can switch if that's the case.

What are the dimensions of the room?
Where will the fake fireplace be?

I agree, a bird's eye view sketch (with dimensions) would help!

In that case, it would be nice to have a photo of the room, will be easier to get a feel

A photo of the room would also be helpful

I have a small living room with TWO doors opening into it and one wall dominated by a window. At various times I've had two x 2.5 seater sofas, but now I've got a chair and one sofa. I rarely have 4+ guests and I like that it's easy to move the chair so it's less in the way when no one's using it (but still looks part of the seating arrangement).

Sadly I have never had a fireplace, but my essentials for making a room cosy are:

  • proper curtains that shut the world out once they're drawn
  • a rug with at least a bit of pile, if it's a room with a hard floor
  • lamps for evening time lighting

And for my sanity, every seat needs to be within easy reach of a surface you can put a drink on (the floor does not count).

Would there be room for a tall, narrow shelving unit or set of drawers on either side of the windows?

I never close the door that leads to the hallway, so I am tempted to remove it and if it's cold in winter, put a curtain across the doorway. But I rent and the idea of having to install the door again is putting me off.

You can get the door rehung to open agains the wall, but this often means the light switch needs to be moved and that means redecorating.

If I’ve understood the diagram right, I would have:

A big sofa along the left hand wall, coffee table or ottoman in front of it

Fireplace on wall opposite

Snuggler or armchair in between facing the window

Big rug that goes under the sofa and snuggler or at least under their front legs

then a dresser or similar on the wall on your left as you come in - the wall that’s missing in the diagram. Put a mirror over the dresser to reflect light from the window

You may want a standard lamp at one end of the sofa and maybe an end table at the other end. Something in the corner between fireplace and window - could be a bookshelf, a big plant in a pot, a small chair.
