I'm getting a fitted wardrobes system for my dressing room (spare room) I like this style (see photo) I have contacted a local joiner but he seems to only deal with wardrobes in the traditional sense. Can anyone recommend where to start and who to contact?

Ikea Platsa does a similar system

We used Platsa and Pax carcasses in our house and got a joiner to make bespoke doors and drawer fronts for them. And surrounds to make them built in.

Much cheaper than a fully bespoke solution btw and means you can use all the clever Ikea interior solutions

I have a similar wardrobe set up and found my joiner on IG. I'd looked at the main players and then the algorithm shared more.

Thank you. I must admit I'm a bit nervous about going for the open plan style. I'm not the most organised person and I don't want it to look like a jumble sale! Any regrets?

I know a reputable joiner who we have used for decking and kitchen renovations. However he orders all his supplies from Howdens which doesn't have a big bedroom range to choose from. Any advice on the planning side of things?

Ah sorry I wasn’t clear, we have doors on ours! I’m far too messy for the open look !

TheBossOfMe · 28/05/2025 09:41

If you're not the most organised, avoid the open look like the plague. Unless you're super minimalist, it always looks awful.

I’ve got that style …. but with doors on. Local
joiner sorted it all and it means it’s all lovely and organised but doesn’t collect dust!

Could you use the IKEA wardrobe system, try it without doors then if you change your mind you just buy the doors

Where are you based?

Ideally you want someone who can make what you need. The guy I ended up using had worked for Sharps and had just left when I found him so his prices were reasonable also.

He came to me and asked what I wanted. I had an IKEA model in mind as initially was going to use them and get built in like suggested above. I only didn't go that route because IKEA messed me about on delivery.

He took my brief; dresses, shoes, gym wear, jewelery and bag compartments plus a tiny bit of space for my husband's stuff.

He then designed it and we signed off on it all. He was very helpful though and provided suggestions and, in some wasted areas that weren't deep enough for cloths, provided additional show shelfs included in the cost.

I also have doors on but will try and find a pic without and with so you can see.

Ended up using him for my son's room and spare room plus cabinetry in the tiny utility room and shelving in living room.
