Sites other than EBay or Etsy for old crockery?

Hello all

in 2009 when we got married we got a whole set of crockery from John Lewis, a special edition by Andrew Martin (the Grand Hotel). The small side plates have not survived 15 years of continual dishwashing and I want to buy replacements but can’t find them anywhere. I’ve emailed John Lewis and Andrew Martin’s team, and hunted on eBay and Etsy monthly for a year. No luck. Is there anywhere else I could look?

Have you tried Vinted? Market place on Facebook and also gumtree?

bge · 11/05/2025 07:24

Tried Facebook, but not the other two, thanks. I thought vinted was just clothes (never been on it) - I’ll check it out

is gumtree still going??

Gumtree yes, well it is in my area. Not the most popular though. Vinted have opened up to more sales so definitely worth a look.

There's a company called chinasearch, you could give them a try.

I second the Chinasearch suggestion - you tell them what you’ve got, they make you an offer, you pack up your items with very clear instructions from them about how to do it, I seem to remember they send a courier, then they send you a cheque. I used them about 3 years ago, it was very simple. Packing things up was a bit of a faff, they like you to use newspaper - I used lots of copies of the free newspapers you get in supermarkets.

@doglikescheeseontoast she wants to buy, not sell.

I have had success with Chinasearch replacing items of our 2000 Denby wedding present crockery. Also eBay and FB market place.

@bge good luck, I love those plates!

I am listing all my unwanted crockery (and I have tons of it) in different patterns on Vinted

Thank you for the Chinasearch suggestion - I’ll look it up now 🙂

We'd also like more of our wedding china (in our case Habitat Nil) but it's the dinner plates, side plates and pasta bowls which have broken.
Unfortunately these tend to be more expensive as the coffee cups etc. are less used by everyone else too!

thank you!

Oops, sorry!

I’ve bought from Chinasearch too. I think if they don’t have what you want you can set an alert for if they get it. Also a search alert on eBay is worth a try. I bought a teapot to match my mum’s 1970s tea set on eBay for not too much money.
