Is it easy to use stick-on dado rails and wallpaper?

Really want to do something fun in my downstairs loo and would love to be able to do it myself.

Thinking of wallpapering the top half and painting the bottom so I want something to act as a border. Has anyone used self adhesive dado rails (think you can get them made of foam?)

Same with self adhesive wallpaper - is it easy to do or is it going to be harder than I think and likely end up looking rubbish?! 😆

Any tips and brands you recommend?

Your first sentence made me chuckle.
I’ve no idea regarding your question because I don’t like wall paper or dado rails (unless it is right era for the house). I’m a strictly plain walls person.
Anyway I’m giving your post a bump so hopefully another poster can help.

😆 I hadn’t realised what my first line sounded like!!

No problem - thank you!

I have done this (photo's attached) although not sure I am much help as I used wooden dado stuck on with no more nails and paste yourself wall paper. I had wall papered before but found doing just up to where the dado was going to be easier. The most problematic part was cutting the dado at an angle to join in the corners. Would recommend trying the wall papering yourself but get a quality paper as they are thicker / easier to apply and although they are more ££ but you don't need many rolls (assuming your downstairs loo is small) Good luck!

@Tealfish fantastic- this is exactly what I want to do! Yours looks lovely!

My loo is about the same size as yours.

Might be a stupid question - but did you tile the splashback before you wallpapered and then just fit the paper around it?

No, I marked the area on the wall that was going to be tiled and wallpapered to just inside that. Same with the Dado rail. Draw a line around where you want the top of the rail to be and paint to just under that line and wall paper to just over it

But surely that means you've papered under your tiles and under your dado rail, which is wrong. When you want to change the paper you'll have trouble.

You would easily be able to cut across where wallpaper meets dado and wallpaper up to the dado the next time. I suspect I would change the tiles if I wanted to redecorate again (which is what happened this time) but tbh as doing it this way made wallpapering easier and gave a neater finish and the fact my frequency of redecoration is not high, I am expecting this to last me a good decade or so 😁

I bought some as we're decorating my late dad's house and we decided to have some fun in the loo with the avocado suite which was a problem room! Surprisingly pleased with the result as I didn't even know such things existed.

Decade? My tiles are forever! Grin
