Help me choose one of these doors

Need 13 new interior doors as current ones are buggered, so can’t afford to get it wrong. Which is your favourite out of these three, DH not being very helpful! House is 1980s built. Thanks!

We have white at the moment but they get grubby around handle (4 kids) but anyone know if there is paint that won’t hold the dirt?

The one with the top panel suits a 30s house best. I'd prefer the oak - you can use zinsser to protect it without adding shine.

gottakeeponmoving · 25/04/2025 22:10

The one on the left

Leafy3 · 25/04/2025 22:10

Most wood paints should be washable, easy enough to wipe down.
You can also get plates that surround door handles to protect the woodwork from grubby fingers

SantanaBinLorry · 25/04/2025 22:10

First one, less cleaning/dusting.

Without seeing the general decor vibe, the white is the safest option. The golden wood one in the same pattern is also pretty safe. I'd see the cooler wood with the lines as a more modern look and so the riskiest option of the three.

Where I saw in Howdens had a lot of dust in the grooves

Agree the modern one for a 1980s house. If mine, I wouldn't paint but varnish it.

Does anyone else think the handle on the white door is in the wrong place? I think it should be above the panels, handles on that style of door were always high.

Cleaner here... The first one will stay clean and smart longer..
Dusting with a furniture polish maybe once a fortnight will stop dust from gathering ime..

The one on the left. Very elegant. I vac the grooves on our doors with the brush attachment.

Moveoverdarlin · 25/04/2025 23:01

The two on the right are very 1930s. I wouldn’t put them in a 80s house so definitely the one on left.

Ketzele · 25/04/2025 23:23

The white one. But I'd paint it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/04/2025 00:20

The left one. The others are 1930s style design (I have original ones in my house).

albalass · 26/04/2025 00:24

While I personally love the 1930s style, would they suit your more modern home? My parents have lovely solid oak doors in a modern style in their 1990s home and they look great.

floppybit · 26/04/2025 00:26

The ones on the right are 1930s style. The one on the left is more modern and therefore better suited to a 1980s house

meevee · 26/04/2025 00:28

not sure the last 2 suit the house but dislike the first option

what about something like this?

Mudflaps · 26/04/2025 00:42

Are you absolutely confined to those three? We have to replace ours soon and I'm determined to get as few grooves or places for dust to gather as possible. I've seen some composite doors that I liked but need to go look as again.

Monty27 · 26/04/2025 00:52

Definitely the vertical grooves. I'm in 1980s build and it's what I want for the wc off the hallway. It's currently got one of those awful plain probably original doors.

rightoguvnor · 26/04/2025 07:38

I had styles 2/3 in my 1931 built semi. I’m toying with the idea of changing my pine doors to the oak ones shown in style 1. Do people think they look ok with white architraves/skirting? There would be oak flooring too.
At the moment everything is pine and you can have too much of a good thing, getting rid of all this knotty pine would be the last job in the house.

Definitely in the wrong place and makes the door look unbalanced.
