How much does a new bathroom cost?

Hi all,

Has anyone had quotes recently for a new bathroom?

We are looking at a house which needs a new family bathroom, 2 ensuites and a downstairs cloakroom replaced.

We don't want to go very high end, but would like something mid-range with walls and floors tiled.

A ballpark figure would be helpful for all of this.

Thanks in advance.

£8k

depends how much needs to be done.

removal of old suites and tiling
putting in a new suite (can you reuse what's there?)
tiling
plumbing

8k for the bathroom and 4k each for the ensuite & cloak.

if you can do some of the work yourself you can save a lot of money.

We had ours done a couple of months ago and it cost £7000 inc labour.

Two years ago, complete strip back to brick with new everything including walls and floorboards about £15k + VAT per bathroom. Both look great and work perfectly. Last year, downstairs cloak, new suite, floor and decoration about £3.5k. Using Roca, Gerberit and Roper Rhodes. It is the labour that costs, but you are paying for skilled trades.

Last year ours was £8k.

removal of old suite, building a stud wall, replacement of suite with new L-shaped bath with thermostatic shower over it. Had to move the sink a few inches but otherwise everything went back where it was before. Vinyl floor tiles and wall panels rather than tiles.

£8k

I was going to say this too but looking at other replies maybe I'm in the headspace of costs of my last renovations in 2017!

We are in East Miss so costs are less than London type areas

I think 10k at least for the master and £5k for the cloakroom/ensuites. Maybe £4k.

That's a lot of ensuites. Would you consider taking one out and having a bigger room?

MissyB1 · 10/04/2025 07:38

Just in the middle of having the family bathroom done, should be finished tomorrow 🤞
it's been totally gutted and refitted including tiling and flooring. £10K.

Chasingsquirrels · 10/04/2025 07:42

I was quoted £8k each for both ensuite and main bathroom (didn't include flooring) 2 years ago - East Anglia. I had 3 quotes for each and all were in the same ballpark. Didn't seem to make much difference that the enuite is smaller.

We did the ensuite ourselves, just finished it and it has cost £4k all in for materials and a couple of extra tools, inc LVT flooring fitted by my flooring guy.
I'd say this was mid-price fittings, tiles etc.

£8k seems to be a thing! Everything removed, stripped back to brick, they fitted the wall tiles & LVT flooring that we purchased (£400 approx). Straightforward layout.

Octavia64 · 10/04/2025 08:03

Last year 6k east Anglia.

Biffsboys · 10/04/2025 08:09

Mine was just short of 10k last year

Which part of EA, and would you recommend your fitters?
(I still want the main bathroom doing).

PaintDecisions · 10/04/2025 08:16

£7.5k here for a full strip out and replace of everything - but the bathroom is about 1.7x1.9m so absolutely tiny.

Moved all the waste and water pipes to reset the layout.

Tiled floor, panelled wall and ceiling, cubicle shower, sink with drawers, loo and radiator.

I supplied all the materials in that price, and paid each trade directly.

I'd go look at the materials you want and cost up based on that - when I quoted for this 2 years ago, it was all coming in under £4.5k....

Just got a quote on Saturday for £8,665 both for labour and material. I live in Kent. Hope that’s useful.

Fatrosrhun · 18/04/2025 21:31

We’ve literally just had a bathroom done this week. A downstairs room, previously a half finished bathroom. They removed the stuff that was there, including the floor. Drilled out drainage channels for the pipes in the concrete floor. Boarded one wall that was only a frame, then tiled the whole room. Mosaic tiles in the shower and smooth tiles on the rest of the floor and walls. It’s a wet room, so no bath. It has a folding glass screen as it’s for someone with mobility issues. Added a plastic ceiling with spotlights. Added a radiator. Changed the direction that the door opened. Added an extractor fan that goes across the ceiling of the next room and through a 3’ thick stone wall. It looks fabulous and was £6500.
(forgot to say - included putting a sink and kitchen unit in the next room, which will be a laundry room)

Thanks for thread. I have struggled with this. the only bathroom layout I want, I'm told will reduce the house value & also cost at least £8k... so I'm living with a bathroom I don't like but I guess I can tolerate.

PermanentTemporary · 18/04/2025 21:51

I had a quote a year ago for a complete redesign and ceiling to floor redo for £16k. We're saving up...

Who told you that?

UmberPanda · 18/04/2025 22:02

Ours was £8k for fitting (not including tiles bath etc) but that was taking the walls back to brick and it’s a big bathroom

MH0084 · 18/04/2025 22:31

8k to 10k for fitting sounds like the standard quote. It will depend on what materials you chose. Just make sure you have a bit extra in case you find something unexpected.

ACynicalDad · 18/04/2025 22:33

The easiest saving you can make is if no plumbing is moved and it's a like for like replacement. Moving toilets in particular can cost a fortune.

lljkk · 20/04/2025 22:25

Fatrosrhun · 18/04/2025 21:56

Who told you that?

My home only has one bathroom. I don't want a shower. Everyone so far argues that my preference is a wrong choice & will mean a future buyer will just rip out my bathroom to install a shower, so they will deduct that cost mentally from any offer they might make.

I am not happy with the house (way too big), so hard to see I'd end up living here very long. So... no point in changing the bathroom at all. I live with something I dislike.
