Please help with suggestions for small, windowless en-suite. I think it should be all tiled to prevent damp affecting paint. As it’s no natural light, I feel that it should be light & bright tiles, but don’t really want plain white. Any suggestions, examples or general inspiration gladly received.

What colours do you love?

Every time I see terrazzo tiles I think they look so great. These ones come in some beautiful colours, I'd find it really hard if I was choosing between the pink, cream, blue or minty green (it's an American company but nice for inspo)

Thanks. They look lovely. I have a bit of trouble visualising what they would look like in situ, but I have found some similar that show examples. Not sure they’re right, but I’ll keep looking. Just want something fresh, but not cold if you know what I mean.

Terrazzo tiles are very now although I think they'd look great. I would steer clear of beiges and browns as they could be very dingy in a small, windowless room. Have a look at the Mandarin Stone website for inspiration.

We recently renovated what had been a derelict house. Contrary to what I thought, large tiles with less grout actually make the room feel larger.
Personally, I'd avoid metro tiles, unless you like the public toilet look. IMO, they were on the way out 3yrs ago when we started the renovations. I'd also worry that a busy, terrazzo type pattern would look incredibly busy in a small bathroom. Its personal choice though obviously.
We bought tiles from a local, independent shop. They were so helpful, let us bring tiles home etc.

Our tiler said he doesn't work with certain brands. Topps tiles, B&Q etc because their tiles are often not square nor flat! He said they shatter more often, so you need to factor in more wastage with them. He recommended a resin type grout. It was more expensive, but has been mould and crack free so far.

Do you have a shower in the en-suite? In a previous property, we had a bathroom which was totally enclosed- no windows at all. We had 1 wall which was a mirror from about hip height up to the ceiling. It made the room feel much larger. Ensure you get a good exhaust fan, but also check the dB levels on it. Some can be very noisy- which you won't want in an en-suite.

Terrazzo can be a bit jarring in a small space. Some plain tiles are not totally plain eg Porcelanosa Butan or Cancun, and a patterned floor tile adds interest without being overwhelming

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’d been having the same thoughts re metro tiles/ small tiles with lots of grout, so thinking of going for larger styles.

We put a metro style in our bathroom at the end of last year, but they're not flat or bevelled. Work well in what is quite a dark room at bouncing the light around.
