Dulux pebble shore - is it grey?

I'm looking for a nice, neutral chalky stone colour. I picked up a dulux Pebble shore tester which looks about right, but on the wall I am worried that it is basically just pale grey.

Had anyone used it that can confirm?

Or suggest anything similar that fits the bill. It's for a west facing hall/stairs and landing.

I’d say it is a warm grey. We have it in our south facing bedroom. It’s very calm and warm rather than cold. But definitely grey.

Chromaover · 10/03/2025 18:08

I have it at home (was in every room when I moved in) and I don't think it looks grey in an obvious Mrs Hinch grey way! Not grey like steel.

I'd say the online descriptions are fairly accurate - 'light grey paint with beige undertones'. Like putty. And 'A cool, light grey with subtle hints of warmth.
A balanced neutral tone that can suit any interior design'.

Definitely a biscuity beige pebbly grey. I really like it. Feels warm to me.

Thank you @Chromaover, that's what I'm looking for but I really didn't want a cold grey. Pale putty is what I'm after. 🤔 I'm going to have to do a few samples I think and pin them up all round.

@Mendeleyev I wonder if it would be colder if not in a south facing room? For half the day this room gets no sunlight.

To update- I painted a few swatches on the wall but I do think it's too grey 😢 back to the drawing board I think ....

It is gray but light and warm. Not too grey. Our whole downstairs uses this colour.

DarkMagicStars · 10/03/2025 19:44

I used it years ago. It was a purple grey tone but will look different depending on each room.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 10/03/2025 19:49

Try Egyptian Cotton, Caramel Latte or Natural Calico instead.

Chromaover · 10/03/2025 20:20

I have barely any natural light at points in my living room and I would say more warm than cool actually... It feels cosy. I wouldn't rule it out!

WhatsTheMatterDavid · 10/03/2025 20:31

We used Valspar Lion of Hadrian which is a nice beige, sort of plaster colour. Not sure if it's what you're after but worth a look.

WhatsTheMatterDavid · 10/03/2025 20:35

Ah pale putty is what we were looking for and this fit the bill for the light level we have. Natural calico and similar were really dark on our wall but this wasn't.

Sallysoup · 10/03/2025 20:40

Have a look at Pale Taupe it's more what I would think of as putty. I find with pale neutrals you have to go a touch darker than you think to get the warmth and avoid it all feeling grey.

Papadonut · 10/03/2025 20:50

I have Egyptian cotton upstairs but I prefer pebble shore.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/03/2025 20:54

@WhatsTheMatterDavid I have always liked Valspar actually, I just end up having to get so many testers because the cards don't accurately reflect the true colour I find.

Just had a look and I wonder if I actually might like Dulux muted blush - more of a pinky undertone?

The carpet is being changed and we haven't chosen yet as going to decorate first, so it's a total blank canvas really.

I love Crown Smoked Oyster. Maybe not what you’re looking for, it’s a slightly lilac grey. We love it though and have used it in our hallway / stairs.

Ilovemyshed · 10/03/2025 21:29

Try Valspar New York City Winter

ChorizoDog · 10/03/2025 21:43

Valspar putty white?

JesusFuckingChristAmerica · 11/03/2025 08:22

Coat paints do sticky tester patches you can move around op. They have a "plaster" set you can order

I'd recommend choosing your carpet first op. You'll be much more limited on carpet choice due to cost (££££) and availability. Then choose paint - of which there are millions and it's much cheaper than recarpeting!

Always start with the most expensive item you're unlikely to be able to change regularly (carpet, sofa, furniture,) and paint last.

Copperoliverbear · 11/03/2025 18:40

Egyptian Cotton is the best.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/03/2025 19:28

@Chromaover yeah I guess, the guy is coming on Friday to quote and bring samples so I will try to get some paint chips before then.

I got sucked down the Valspar rabbit hole, there's a few 'whites' on there that are like what I'm looking for

As long as you want warm grey, pebble shore is the best out there! It’s grey but as warm as it gets. Gorgeous colour.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/03/2025 19:38

@orangesonatree no, I don't really want grey. I want neutral chalky stoney colour (which to be fair, it does look on the packaging) but on the wall and as confirmed on here, it's definitely grey

skidamarinkadinka · 11/03/2025 20:04

Try Hampton stone from next. It's a neutral sort of grey/purple, very warm, it's on my bedrooms walls

Lili19 · 14/11/2025 12:06

It is grey. Too grey and too dark. Not warm. At least on my wall. The colour is nothing like on the label.
