Boiler in a bedroom

Has anyone had to live with a boiler in a bedroom? It was there when we moved in and relocating it is not an option yet as Id imagine it will cost thousands which we havent got. The room is my little boys room which we are decorating this year, thinking of boxing it in as part of the wardrobe. Wondering what other people have done its a nightmare worse place it could be I dont know why they would put it in a bedroom. Also wondering if theres a way of sound proofing it. Any ideas would be very welcome. Thank you.

I think you're over worrying - they will get used to and probably be comforted by the noise in time!

Yes you can box it in as long as you don’t disturb the flue.
It might not make a difference to the noise, mine is in the airing cupboard, which is against part of the bedroom wall and I can hear it, mine’s got a condensate pump on it though which is quite noisy.

If you are only moving the boiler, not replacing it, it shouldn''t cost much, some pipework and a new flue, and an extended power circuit.

If you can't move it yet, double up on carbon monoxide alarms.

I wouldn't be happy with it.

Just make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are reliable. Otherwise, it's fine!

It will cost quite a bit to move a boiler, it has to be recommissioned, DH would charge £6-800.

Our daughter’s bedroom has had the boiler in it since she was born. The door will need to have a couple of vents in it and we put a carbon monoxide detector in the cupboard too. She’s an adult now, no issues.

Any boxing will need vents. Louvre doors will do the trip but are dated. Check with the boiler engineer before going ahead and check its been serviced recently.

Dd had one in a shared uni house. We got two CO alarms for her room so I didn't feel too worried about the safety aspect but it did disturb her sleep as it was a combi and the minute anyone ran the hot tap during the night (quite common in the comings and goings of a student house) it would fire up. But if she had been used to it from babyhood then perhaps it would just be normal white noise?

That’s reminded me, when we moved in there was a Louvre door but the heat made the glue dry and the door practically fell apart so we replaced it with a regular door plus vents and there have been no problems.
