What are your views on coloured grout?

We are redoing out bathroom.

This is the colour scheme. Sink unit is dark green, off white tiles and paler green walls with dark green tiles along the bath.

Off white tiles are 20cm square. I think we'll go with grey floor.

Plumber has asked what colour grout we want. This feels like a decision too far. Shall I just go with white or would either grey or green be a good idea?

Bathroom is 2m x 2.5m so not huge but not pokey.

What are your views on coloured grout?

I would go white or off white.

Soontobe60 · 05/03/2025 14:20

I would go with grout that’s the same colour as the tiles, so off white and Green.

For floor tiles go for 'dirt' colour - it saves a lot of time.

NoOneKnowsWhoYouAre · 05/03/2025 14:24

We have grey. It looks lovely and doesn't show the dirt as badly as white

BarnacleBeasley · 05/03/2025 14:25

We have a light silvery grey too, and it looks nice. The tiler said one lady asked for glittery grout.

MistyFrequencies · 05/03/2025 14:29

We have a kind of bronze coloured grout for our rusty colour bathroom tiles. Best decision, so much easier to keep clean. Would go with colour of tiles.

outofofficeagain · 05/03/2025 15:02

Our existing grout has gone orange so I was hoping coloured grout would look better for longer.

One of my best decisions ever was choosing grey grout in the bathroom. Ten years later still looks like new.

madaffodil · 05/03/2025 16:26

Go with grout that's the same colour as the tiles. We had our bathroom done a couple of years ago and the tiles are a sort of pale grey/fawn. The plumber suggested coloured grout to match the tiles, and I said no way, I wanted white. He persuaded me to go his way, and I'm so glad I agreed. Funnily enough, I was only looking at them half an hour ago thinking that very thing.

Sassysoonwins · 05/03/2025 17:39

Grey all the way. They never look dirty, so I rarely clean them specifically. Just mop the whole floor. When I had white I spent far too much time with a toothbrush and bleach instead of playing on sm like a sane person.

Londonmummy66 · 05/03/2025 18:26

I did a bathroom last year and it has a grey floor and white tiles. We used gunmetal grount (a fairly light grey) on the walls and a darker grey to match the floor tiles on the floor. Looks really good

Darkrestlessness · 06/03/2025 07:58

Same colour as the tiles. I stayed in a hotel that had white tiles and blue grout in the shower room - don't do that!😂

Thisisthewayz · 06/03/2025 08:11

We had our bathroom re done a few months ago, grey tiles, white everything else, grout we chose grey- so glad, looks so good against the grey tiles.

Eddielizzard · 06/03/2025 08:22

You can get rid of the orange limescale from your grouting with viakal spray.

kellionette · 06/03/2025 08:48

With the grey tiles on the floor then I would definitely go for grey grout. Looks good and makes it SO much easier to clean.

We had a bathroom done last year, and I deliberately chose the tiles so that the floor tiles and shower cubicle tiles would look good with dark grout. Because otherwise that grout never stays white. (On bathroom walls that aren't near splashy things then white grout is more of an option.) 100% love this decision, and I'm going to do the same when we re-do our other bathroom later. White grout on the floor and in the shower cubicle is a loser's game.

crossstitchingnana · 06/03/2025 08:57

We have grey tiles and black grout. Our builder tried to talk us out of it, glad he didn't they look fantastic.

Mosaic123 · 06/03/2025 09:01

I teach how to mosaic classes. I would avoid white grout and use a mid grey or a green colour you like. Look at the brand called Mapei which offers quite a few choices.

An alternative, if your tiler is willing, is to have Epoxy grout. It's a two part product that is stain resistant. Not easy to apply and much more expensive. Used in hotel bathrooms.
