Only way the bed can be placed.

So we’ve just moved house and our room is very small. Low ceilings and two bay windows. With our wardrobes this is the only way our bed can go. It isn’t ideal but it’s what we’re working with. There’s a gap between the headboard and the window as the bay window isn’t wide enough for the bed to actually fit in. We’ve got curtains to put up. But I mean this is ok right? Maybe behind could be used for storage ?🤷🏻‍♀️ I also don’t believe in that feng shui stuff whatever it is. Sort of regretting the move now and wish I planned it a bit more. The bed is a small double so we’ve literally downsized as much as we can !

pictures are showing the beds position and the size of said gap. Ignore the mess, literally moved all the stuff in today!

A small double won't be comfortable for a couple surely?

Shoemadlady · 26/02/2025 20:56

Can't you out the wardrobes side by side and then the bed headboard in the wall where the wardrobes are in the right?

MouldyCandy · 26/02/2025 20:57

I'd get new wardrobes to avoid having my bed like that.

Chuchoter · 26/02/2025 20:57

Get rid of all the black and make it light and bright will help make it look more spacious.

In the gap between the radiator and the bed I would put an ottoman that could store bed linen.

As a short term solution, it is fine. I assume the cot and child might move into another room at some point?

Theycallmemama · 26/02/2025 22:27

No because if the sloped ceilings they don’t fit and the other side is an open fire place. It’s the only way I can have it. Eve when the cot goes it doesn’t make a difference as the wall is so small

Are you actively using the fireplace? If not I’d be tempted to put a wardrobe/bed infront of it.

SwedishEdith · 26/02/2025 22:32

Have you a floorplan with dimensions? Is that the biggest room or is there another, maybe smaller, room that would work better?

minipie · 26/02/2025 22:43

Need a floorplan or diagram

Built in wardrobes might be worth considering to fit under the slopes

and as pp says the fireplace may need to go

newkettleandtoaster · 26/02/2025 22:46

It's not ideal but not terrible.

However, one big issue I would have is the radiator. You can't sleep with your head so close to the radiator, it's a horrible feeling. You will get a headache and just feel awful.

Looks like the cot takes up a lot of room, and that won't be forever.

However, could you not replace the wardrobe with something much shorter? Would that give you more options?

I had a bedroom in the eaves in a previous house and I bought a child's wardrobe so it would fit. It was fine.

warningairbag · 26/02/2025 22:48

I had a small double bed for years when i had my first flat. It worked ok. I wouldn't want it now but needs must. I don't see what the issue is with your room tbh. I see your baby is in there so that limits the space but a bedroom is just for sleeping. I like the sloped ceilings, lovely and cosy.

I've just seen this idea on an ikea hack page. Would something like this be possible

Did you ever see the room with the previous occupants furniture in? How had they done it?

Medium term, I think I'd alter or replace the wardrobes. Abd make sure the heating is off overnight if your heads are that close to the radiator.

JimHalpertsWife · 27/02/2025 08:25

Are there any other bedrooms? Just because precious owners had it as the master doesn't mean you have to too.

Theycallmemama · 27/02/2025 13:01

Yes the other room is a box room with his brother in and my daughter is downstairs in the dining room which is now her room which is even smaller!

Personally, I couldn't live like this. Its not a comfy, calming place to relax at the end of the day.

I would get rid of the wardrobes and all the black. There's black on the ceiling, walls, bed and floor, and not much natural light coming in which makes the whole room look even gloomier.

Babies are stimulated by colour, patterns and shapes, of which there are none. The whole room is depressing. Sorry.

My opinion doesn't matter. If you don't care, then yes it's OK. You have a roof over your heads and beds to sleep in. But seeing as you posted here with a photo and asked the question, it suggests that you do actually care!

It's their room though too - baby isn't living in there all the time and surely it's better not to have stimulation in a room baby is sleeping in

I wouldn't be decorating the room for a child when they'll be out of there into their own room soon

I didn't mean to actually make it a babies room, but there's just no colour or pattern.

If babies aren't supposed to be stimulated in their rooms, why does literally everyone decorate nurseries with colour, pattern and cute things?! Also, it gives them things to look at when they wake up to entertain themselves with.

Babies soak everything in like a sponge, and I wouldn't want my baby in that depressing room. It doesn't evoke happiness and calm.

So what's the plan when baby outgrows the cot?

SwedishEdith · 27/02/2025 19:48

What's on the side of the room we can't see? I'd have to turn the bed around, at least, so my feet were at the window.

SingingSands · 27/02/2025 22:59

@MrsJHernandez did you read the OP? They have just moved house. I imagine they haven't yet had time to create a stimulating wall display for the baby 🙄
