Fly screens for Bi-Fold doors

Hi.
I’m looking for a bit of advice please. Every Summer I am plagued, literally plagued, with flies in my kitchen /diner. I have lovely bi-fold doors but end up keeping them shut in boiling weather because hundreds of flies come in and end up trapped up in the lantern roof (which has no opener).

I am considering possible solutions to this (other than fly papers , zapping lamps or those things outside the door which work but literally smell foul ) so I can finally enjoy a Summer with the doors open!

I have seen some companies which claim to sell sliding mesh screens (very expensive) and others selling cheap stick-up magnetic mesh screens (which say they would work on bi-folds) but I would love to hear directly from anyone who has successfully dealt with this issue, at whatever cost!

Thanks so much 😊

I live in Alaska with lots of mosquitoes. The sliding mesh doors work great, no flies can get in and they keep the air circulating. People here use the magnetic ones too, a bit more annoying/ fiddly if you're popping in and out a lot. People here tend to use them more on their campers and cabins as they're cheaper, in places where they don't want to spend the money on the sliding ones.

I haven't got them for doors but do have the magnetic ones for windows. What I will say is that mine are used for those small top opener windows and the finer mesh stops midges so we opted for those. We remove them when the windows are shut as they are small and we can store them easily. They do look darker than a normal window so will reduce some light coming in. They are well made and the magnetic strip is strong. It is white to blend into the white upvc frame.

If you go down the magnetic route they will either be on your doors permanently or you will need to stash them somewhere. Personally I would be looking into the sliding ones so you can use them year round. Shop around. We used this company but there are lots out there.

Thank you both for your messages. I think I would like to look into the sliding mesh doors. Dread to think the cost!

We’ve got bifolds as well and had the same fly problem every summer. The magnetic mesh was fine at first but got annoying with everyone going in and out. We tried sliding mesh screens from Premier Screens and they’ve been much more practical, doors can stay open and no flies stuck buzzing around the kitchen roof anymore.

Thanks lemontart13 .
Another Summer of flies over and I still haven’t sorted out this problem!! Do you have a photo of the type of screens you went for in the end? How were they this Summer?

@DidyouhearmeCan you get the lantern adjusted so some of it opens? We have opening sections in ours.

Im interested in screens though but they do negate the “bringing the garden in” look - a seemless vista from house to garden. We just Hoover all the time!
