Making a home more cosy

Hi, I am bored to death of my living room/kitchen but have no idea what to do to make it a more welcoming and cosy space. It’s open plan and quite a big space, it has potential to look so nice but I’m boring and don’t know how to make it look better. It’s a really odd shape too.
my walls are boring white. Any tips on how to make it more cosy and on a budget? Any ideas appreciated

Can you draw a floor plan?

Would the TV be better on the wall being where the sofa is with the sofa parallel to and facing it and a walking space behind the sofa?

Console table behind the sofa (Amazon), side table, more lamps, plants, pictures, rugs, some sort of standalone shelving to add height, texture and interest.

Thanks for the tips!
-it does look under-furnished, I have no idea how to make it look more cosy. My kids are still at an age where they break things. Only today I discovered someone had broke my lantern but nobody has owned up to it
-agree about changing the curtains I want thicker ones and a different colour
-it’s such an add shape the TV can only really go where it already it. Don’t think I will take the radiator off.
can’t afford to change the sofa at the moment, would a throw help? The rug does look small when I bought it in dunelm the other was too small and the other rug was massive

I am thinking of painting the back wall, not sure what colour and then adding nice shelves? the art work on the wall was my child 😂 that will be coming off.

Struggling to picture the other end up. Can you draw a little pic of the shape including where the kitchen is?

What's round the corner from the TV that we can't see?

You’d be surprised how painting all the walls a darker colour can make a room look more cosy and it’s cheaper than buying new furniture.

Throw is a good idea. Maybe a small table in the corner. Long curtains (you can tuck them behind the radiator, that’s what we do). Or turning into a colourful play space.

At the mo it does have a bachelor pad vibe to it 🤣.

Yes, I’m all in favour of deep colours. I have an Inchyra blue living room with a mustard/gold sofa, and i yhink it looks good — my furniture is ancient and cheap.

im going to order some prints and frames for the wall
