Does anyone have a roof lantern/ sky light in a north facing room?

Hi all, can anyone tell me if they have a roof lantern on a north facing room at all? I'm looking at adding one to the extension at the back of my house, but, it's quite cold at the back of our house as the sun never gets on it. I'm hoping it will bring more light into the kitchen but I'm worried about the cold!

Pic attached of what I am hoping for.

Any advice would be warmly received :)

I have a velux window in the bedroom on the north side. I, personally, would avoid one facing south as that side of my house can end up like a pizza oven.

It's going to be a bit colder at night either way as it's less insulated than a roof would be. Go for the lantern for the light and think about adding to your heating.

Yes I do. We have a north facing room with bifold and a sky lantern. It is cold in winter, but really lovely in summer

Our extention is east and north facing (french doors facing both ways) and we have Velux windows in the ceiling (roof is sloped so north facing). The room is so bright because of the ceiling windows it's fabulous. Definitely recommend.

Hi did you go for the roof lantern? We are in exactly the same position north facing extension we have decided we are going to have the lantern to let in more light but my dilemma at the moment is do I go for blue or clear glass. I think the blue tinted glass looks lovely but don’t want the any sunlight or heat filtered out

I have 3 small velux skylights in different positions in my north facing dining/kitchen extension (upstairs flat wouldn’t approve a big nice one)
Its a tad cold in winter and they do have some condensation issues. But I guess the cold is also due having just one small radiator to cover the entire area. It’s not enough.
I find them lovely and can’t imagine how dark the area would be in winter without them.
Go for it!

Lizbeth, we just installed one and I would advise going for clear glass vs blue. I love my lantern but have already found that even with the clear glass it was really difficult to figure out paint colours as there is light coming in and bouncing around from all angles. I tried F&B school house white originally which I thought was a safe bet but it looked dramatically different on every wall. I imagine adding the blue tint would make it even tricker!

Definitely adds lots of lovely light into the space though!
