There seems to be mixed opinions on them

I like ours. My Mum has one too and finds it useful. What's the objection?

Not closing promptly when heavily loaded, wire baskets with things falling out, rickety…

One would solve a lot of issues for us but not if it’s a pita and ends up breaking.

I have one but I don't over load it with heavy stuff. It has worked perfectly for about 12 years.

I had one about 15 yrs ago and it was absolutely a Godsend, New kitchen last year and it was first thing on the list - both Ikea

Love the one I have now because it's accessible from both sides and easy to load/grab from. Never had any issues with not closing. And it has so much useful storage for all my dry goods. But the one in my old kitchen opened against a wall and I hated it because it was so hard to reach everything from one side.

I also prefer my current pull out larder to the full walk in closet larder I once had - that had a tendency to get cluttered and disorganised. Just personal preference.

I have one but it doesn’t have the baskets, it has smooth running shallow drawers instead which is much better.
I had some cupboards that had basket shelves and ended up just removing them because they were a pain in the arse.

We’ve had ours for 15 years and it’s great. It’s packed with stuff, accessible from both sides so best use of space in our kitchen. Occasionally something falls over and you have to work out which it is before you can close it but not frequently enough to be an issue (and it gets opened multiple times a day).

I have one each side of my fridge, so useful for herbs, spices, packets, oils. I've had them 7 years with no issues.

Yes pull out drawers instead of baskets. No issues with ours at all few years old now. We have heavy stuff like potatoes and packets of pasta/rice on bottom, then a drawer of tins so again heavy, then things like flour, sugar, cake stuff, then cereals, then crisps/snacks. Fit so much more in there than standard cupboard and much more organised.

I had one from Howdens and I absolutely loved it. Now we're in a new place with a separate room as the pantry and I really miss the pull out larder. When we redo our kitchen I'd have another

Sorry to hijack this thread, but what kind of handles do you have on your pull-out larders? And how are they orientated? I can’t work out if a handle over to one side (like a normal cupboard) will make pulling it out harder. But a central handle looks odd… thoughts please!

ElsaSnow · 04/02/2025 07:39

@Isittimeforbedyet1 mine is a normal cupboard handle to the side to match all the other cupboards/drawers. The pull out drawers themselves don't have handles.

Isittimeforbedyet1 · 04/02/2025 12:19

@ElsaSnow Does it feel ‘squint’ at all when you pull it out?
