Solution for gap in kitchen units

We recently removed a broken tumble dryer from its spot in the kitchen which has left a gap which will be handy for storage but looks quite horrible (as does the gap to the right where a deep drawer reached the end of it's natural life). Sorting out the kitchen properly is on our list of things to do, but we are concentrating on structural fixes to the house at the moment (old house which needs new windows, roof etc) so I'm just looking for a stopgap that we can live with for a while.

We don't have v.g DIY skills but do know a handyman who could fit something. Has anyone found any storage units recently that could either slot into this space or be fitted that would look ok? The gap is 60cms wide and 87 high?

Thanks for any advice - I love seeing the things that people come up with in their houses but just seem to be missing the gene that's good at thinking of them myself...

I would just put in a couple of shelves or veg storage boxes won't look great but it's functional.... or a wine rack if you want it looking a bit better!

I'd go with some kind of vegetable rack in the bigger space. Hopefully you can find one that fits well.

In the smaller gap I'd go for a nice looking wooden or woven crate that you could just pull in and out.

If you find something like this in a workable size, it could tide you over until you get it fixed.

You could buy a 60cm kitchen unit and just slide it into place? Open shelves or drawers might look nice? Check the depth before ordering one as they can have different depths.

Ilovemyshed · 03/02/2025 15:18

You could look at adding some sliding wicker baskets something like these / loads available with google search.

Or find a cheap wine fridge on market place for the 600 wide gap.

Cheap curtain rail and pretty fabric curtain? Then shove whatever you want behind it. Very cottage core 😊

LaundryIsNotmyFriend · 03/02/2025 15:23

I really like the idea of a curtain hiding a pull out metal sliding unit like the one linked above. These curtains are right on trend and you can pick a fabric that really lifts the space
