Roman blinds fitted without drilling - rented house

I’m in a rental property and would like to put up a couple of Roman blinds, but understandably my landlords don’t want me to make any cosmetic changes.

I have looked at the no drill blinds on the market but I’d rather make my own as I have a specific fabric in mind. But is there any way I can fix them to the window/wall without drilling? I did see that command strips were suggested but I can’t see how they would withstand the tension when trying to open and close the blinds?

Thank you!

I am sure you can do pretty much what you like including drilling in blinds as long as you return the home in the same state you got it. So that means filling holes and repainting.

However, one work around might be to fix the top of the Roman to a piece of wood the width of the window itself (assuming upvc) and command strip the whole piece of wood to the window. The blind will be closer to the window than if hung on the wall but might work?

You’d be surprised! They do seem to be adverse to me doing anything cosmetic, despite telling me they want me to make it my home. I was reminded that I shouldn’t put pictures up or use command strips on the wall at my last inspection.

I will try what you have suggested, failing that I’ll just use the holes they have drilled for the curtain poles where I can.

Thanks

Well I came here to recommend command strips too unfortunately.

Next time they say ‘we want you to make it your home’ ask them why, as ‘you don’t want me to do this or that, it’s very hard to see this house anything other than me staying temporarily in your home’ and look for somewhere else.

What does the contract say? Including And what is their relationship to the flat?
The norm would be to hand the place back in the state you found it. I can safely say I’ve left every rental I’ve had better than I found it but people are funny like that. I asked a landlady if I could lay laminate flooring and she was delighted and further down the line when the building needed scaffolding she made some changes to my windows etc that cost her more than my upgrades but she liked me as a tenant and knew I looked after the place.
the problem is often if it was their home and they like things like they were. If it’s an investment rental the landlords normally don’t give a toss as long as they don’t have to repair a load but then that’s what the guarantee of the deposit is for..

There’s a whole Instagram and Pinterest world of renter friendly upgrades.

OP what window coverings do you currently have?

You’ve hit the nail on the head, it was their home and I’m the first tenant they’ve had.

The contract says this:

“Not to damage interior walls or decorations by affixing pictures, mirrors, or any other hanging item using nails, screws, adhesive compounds or tapes without written consent from the Landlord”. And he has reiterated this after the inspection.

I’ve also left every rental house looking better than when I moved in. I love all things interiors though, and all white walls frustrate me!

They are either very nice antique brass curtain poles, or grey Venetian blinds, which are the ones I want to get rid of! I could make curtains in the room but I was hoping to save some money and not have to buy quite so much fabric!

I think I will try command strips and see if they work.
