Window ideas- difficult to fit blind/curtain pole

Hi, we have an internal window in one of our bedrooms/study (between the room and stairway). We want it to be uncovered normally to let light in, but with the option of covering occasionally as its our guest room. The glass is textured so privacy film won't stick. There isn't really a recess and the woodwork above makes a standard blind or curtain fitting possible.
I have seen these two which may work, any other ideas please? Doesn't have to be a blind.

We are completely undecided on colour, there will be 2 other blinds on external windows, wall is painted almond white.

Can you put a track or pole above the window?

That's just what i was going to suggest.

Probably silly question but are you sure the bit marked in red (see scribble on photo below) is part of the frame? It looks like it might be something that was added separately and could be removed? If so then you’d have a lot more options

Another suggestion - have a look at easyblackoutblinds. However these do require you to stick velcro pads onto the window frame permanently so depends if you’re ok seeing those.

are both sides of the window textured? my textured windows are flat on one side. but i wouldn't add more film as you do want the light.
there is no reason you could not do wall mounted blinds that affix to the outside wall section of the window.

Stick a plank of wood above the frame, paint it the same colour as the room, and attach a standard blind or curtain pole and curtains to it

Here are a couple more pics, I don't think the wooden section above is removable and it extends along the whole wall/doorframe either side of the window.
The wood above the window is curved so Im not sure a blind or curtain bracket would fit. Not sure how a blind or curtain pole on the wall above would look as will break the wall above?

Each little window is 45cm wide, 80cm height.

They are textured on both sides.

Which bit would be best to stick the wood plank too? Ceiling fit/to the 3 upright wood sections within the recess or on the curved bit above? Thank you

i might be tempted to go bold and attach into the moulding go with a fabric roman blind that adds a little pop.
if you want it as concealed as possible go with a roller blind attached just above the straight section in a color similar to the window frame.
it may mean adding a bit of a wood block to have it sit and roll out properly.

PineappleCoconut · 30/01/2025 21:54

I'd put it on the wall above the frame

Look at rod top blind or cafe blind. like a Parisian cafe look. Little bracket each side which the rod sits in when in use. When you don’t need the blind you remove the rod and just the brackets remain.

Attach the pole to the ceiling along door and window wall.
