This is all over my insta feed, and not just cloakrooms (which I can understand).

Does this work in main bathrooms with showers?

It must surely depend on how well vented the bathroom is - and nobody in the house spending 20 minutes with the shower on. Not something I'd try.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/01/2025 19:57

Wouldn't work in my bathroom, even with windows open alll the time we literally have moisture running down the walls even with a giant humidifier going.

Daftapath · 29/01/2025 20:02

I have 'bathroom wallpaper' in my small shower room. It's been up for at least 3 years and fine so far.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 29/01/2025 21:48

@Daftapath is that the stick on wallpaper? Or a different type of bathroom wallpaper. Looking for a petrol blue one atm and have found a nice stick on which says it will suit bathrooms but keen to hear any real life experience. Thank you

BamberGirl · 29/01/2025 22:18

I gave normal wallpaper in my bathroom, was cheap too from Dunelm.
its not on the walls where the bath/shower is though. No problems with it at all and that’s with two teenagers who have long showers and don’t always remember to open the window either.

Bathroom wallpaper is good if you have a good exaust fan. It is a pain to remove it actually, as it has a water repellent coating.

RanchRat · 30/01/2025 12:05

I have Laura Ashley wallpaper in my bathroom. It looks fantastic and has been up for about 10 years. It is not special bathroom wallpaper. I painted the walls with PDF glue before pasting it up. I think I will never be able to get it off, but it looks so good I don't care.

I have ordinary wallpaper in my bathroom, been up nearly three years I did roller on Polyvine clear flat varnish on top of the wallpaper & have no peeling or damage, the bottom half of the walls are tiled as is the shower area.

It wasn't stick on. We used normal pre-made paste. Only covered a small area so not sure if that made a difference?

@ChillinwiththeVillains this is it

your paper is beautiful. Hmm think our little bathroom might be too damp despite super powerful fan. Lots of baths and showers daily.

AuntieDen · 30/01/2025 19:02

we have wallpaper in a bathroom which I would guess has been there since the 80's - its not an especially steamy bathroom though.

I've been looking at shower panels/shower walls for when we redecorate it as we plan to put a shower in and I'd like a boudoir style in there. Not the cheapest but about the same as amazing tile and less cleaning of grout! - its a good wallpaper alternative if you plan to keep the decor the same for a while

Notsuchafattynow · 31/01/2025 09:18

Hmmm interesting, so not a flat no which I was expecting!

I do sometimes wonder how many bathrooms these people on Insta have - if you have an en suite shower, you could probably get away with wallpaper in your main bathroom as it wouldn't get as much use?

ReignOfError · 31/01/2025 09:49

It was common when I was younger. I had it in my only bathroom, put it up in 1980 or so, and it was still there and in good nick until fifteen years later, when my ex-husband put in a new bathroom.

Manchesterbythesea · 31/01/2025 09:59

We have wallpaper in our bathroom because the walls in our house are so bad, paint just looked awful and is too big to fully tile. We had a professional do it and it looks great. We bought the paper in B&Q. When it’s clean and tidy it’s probably my favourite room here.

We have only one bathroom and have ordinary wallpaper on one of the walls. We've had it for 13 years and it's been fine, no peeling at all, withstanding about 4 showers a day.

Okayornot · 03/02/2025 18:27

Works in our bathroom. We have wallpaper behind the bath and sink (with just a small marble upstand behind the sink). Tiles in the shower obviously. We put a good extractor in the shower and also the room is quite big and airy, with a window I can open.

If you have concerns I gather a couple of coats of decorators varnish can do the trick.

Okayornot · 03/02/2025 18:29

Mine is normal wallpaper too, not something for bathrooms.
It was wallpapered before our renovation as well and while that had become a bit tatty it had been in situ since the mid 80s.
