What kind of mattress do you have?

I have a 10 year old IKEA spring mattress, I couldn't tell you anything more than that. It is knackered and the bed is falling apart.

Just before Christmas we ordered a new mattress that's coming next week. We ordered a soft hybrid mattress and I'm wondering if we made a mistake. DP really really wanted it and I gave in in between chasing the toddler around Dreams.

We both weigh between 70-85 kg (I am pregnant at the moment so catching up with DP) so I'm hoping it will be ok?

But I've just laid down in the spare room on what I think is a firm hybrid mattress and I am having serious second thoughts. Obviously we won't know until it arrives but it was not cheap so I'm worried we may have made a costly mistake.

Just wanted to see what other people had as well and how you're getting on with it?

I always buy silentnight firm mattresses, I have a memory foam topper on top so it’s really comfortable, but I like the support of the firm. I can’t sleep on soft.
New one probably every 10-12 years.
I hate the new no turn ones though, the just rotate ones I don’t think last as long. I used to turn at least once a month, now rotate once a month.

ViSpring Woolacoombe I think. 2000 springs, pocket sprung firm mattress with wool.

I bought it in 2005 and it's still perfect. I'm about 64kg and single so it mostly just has to support me. It's lovely 😊

Vispring Herald Supberb, bought this year but so far so good.

Puddleclucks · 15/01/2025 19:26

An Emma. I fucking hate it, it's the biggest piece of crap I ever bought. Am in the process of looking for something to replace it with.

pompey38 · 15/01/2025 19:34

Harrison Spinks worth the money 10 times over

Hemlocked · 15/01/2025 19:42

An Emma because a friend didn't need it. It's ok. I don't have strong emotions about it like PP

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/01/2025 19:46

one of these.

Hypnos Wool Origins 6.

2 years old and perfect still

Worth every penny

edit: we spent ages in the bed showroom trying out mattresses.

The cost of the mattress has bdfb largely offset by not having to go to the physio a couple of times a month with my achy back - it’s no longer achy.

Youtookmyhandle · 15/01/2025 19:49

I suffer with my back and anything memory foam makes it worse. I bought a spring coiled mattress and I'm able to sleep much better.

ohyesido · 15/01/2025 19:49

We have a Tempur mattress. It's so squishy and soft and comfortable

Agreed - they're the John Lewis ones. Bought a new one recently and it's fab. Very expensive but I didn't realise how badly an (older) firm, cheap mattress was treating me until I changed to a decent one! go for the highest spring count you can afford.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 15/01/2025 19:53

Hypnos. Utterly amazing. Bought it after having the privilege of being in a Premier Inn for a month after a flood wiped out our entire home. I'd have one again in a heartbeat. Not cheap, but worth every bloody penny.

(I spend a lot of time on / in my bed due to a disability / chronic health condition) Fantastic for my pain and arthritis.

FootstepAway · 15/01/2025 19:53

Also I always thought that a firm mattress is somehow good for you. It's not. Unless you're really overweight, a softer one is likely to be far better.

Lonelycrab · 15/01/2025 19:55

I have a five year old IKEA matress and I get a reasonable nights sleep on it, it’s holding up ok 🤷‍♂️

Floralnomad · 15/01/2025 19:56

I’ve got a med / firm Dormeo octaspring hybrid and it is so comfortable , it has also , no idea how stopped my husband from snoring .

hby9628 · 15/01/2025 19:59

@Puddleclucks I'm in the same situation but I'm scared to buy another and it also be shite and therefore another expensive mistake!

Devilsmommy · 15/01/2025 20:02

An extra firm Naturalex memory foam mattress. It's bloody brilliant

Londontown12 · 15/01/2025 20:25

Tempur !! It’s expensive but worth it !!!

Interesting, why don't you like it? All their advertising says they've won awards and stuff but I've also seen them in Lidl recently, so 🤔

Yes this is what I believe as well but thinking about it I don't know why I believe this? Like where did it come from?

Tempur. Best use of ££££ for anything in the house

sweetsardineface · 15/01/2025 21:43

I love my Emma.

Sunflowers098 · 15/01/2025 23:02

I've got a Simba. It's fab! No more backache.

Moier · 15/01/2025 23:12

Severally disabled .
I have a JYSK cooling gel memory foam... Gold Matress.
Was half price sale 2 years ago reduced to £400 from £800.
Best I've ever had

BirthdeighParteigh · 15/01/2025 23:55

I have one from John Ryan by design. One of the only places I found which is transparent about materials and what you actually get for your money.
