We're looking to redo our kitchen. We definitely want something colourful as opposed to grey, white or navy. I'm keen on open shelving on the top level rather than fitted cupboards. I also want some specific stuff, eg drawers for pans etc rather than cupboards on the bottom, a larder-type cupboard, a space for cake tins and baking tins to be stored on their side rather than in a pile etc. I'm just wondering where the best place to go is for furniture/designers? I've never redone a kitchen before and am not a naturally organised or project-managey person.

On Pinterest look at damson/burgandy kitchens with either plaster coloured walls (Little Greene Masquarade) or a beige/warm off white. Brass hardware. Think about different lighting options depending on the time of day.

I have a navy blue kitchen, reno’ed 3 years ago and a love it, but I plan on having it professionally painted the above. It’s such a warm colour and feel (and is the perfect backdrop for plants). I’ve realised over the years that want less white in my life and more warmth (when we had the Reno we painted all walls just regular trade emulsion white).

What is your budget? My mum runs a bespoke kitchen company, some stuff is megabucks but the base range can easily compete with cheaper retailers and is better quality and bespoke sizes rather than standard sizes.

I'd try and find somewhere local and also visit bigger retailers like Sigma 3 (much nicer than Wren/Howdens etc) even if it's just for ideas.

Ps I have a kitchen which is mostly Farrow and Ball Treron (a beautiful muted green) with a bank of breakfront larder and open shelving in Ammonite. They look lovely and modern but not the more in fashion stuff!

Be warned open shelves get greasy/dirty!

Honestly not sure of our budget yet - we also have two rooms to knock through. But I would expect up to £50K.

Definitely look for a local bespoke place then! I always drool over Tom Howley for inspiration.

I have all the things on your list apart from baking trays on their side, I used the DIY Kitchen site to plan my kitchen!

I did mine in the days before the online planner, and used some graph paper & their cut out units etc so I expect it's a lot easier now!

I have all pan drawers apart from a shallow cupboard that goes round the waste pipe from the bathroom, I'm still immensley proud of the fact my plan enables me to empty the dish washer without moving off the spot! 🤣

You could go to somewhere like Wren with your measurements & let them plan you a kitchen & then play around with those or use them to decide what you like about it, don't like about it!
