How best to go about ordering a DIY Kitchens kitchen

Morning. I’ve seen many people on here recommend DIY Kitchens, and we are looking to upgrade our current one.

How is the best way to go about planning a kitchen with them? Did you sit down with a different kitchen company (say for example, Wren or Howdens) so they can advise measurements / styles and then go to DIY Kitchens to order it?

You can either measure yourself and use their planner or you can go to a different store to get a plan and then ask DIY to quote and match for it. Have you been to their showroom? This will give a good idea of their styles and what units they have, as they will have different unit types than Howdens etc.

We used their planner. After we ordered someone from DIY sense checked it and suggested some changes. We also got a plan from Wren just to see what they came up with but we weren’t too impressed.

There is a DIY Facebook group that is super helpful especially when it comes to ordering and saving some money on panels etc. The end and filler panels are expensive and we found DIY automatically added some that wouldn’t be seen. Also helped us think about little nuances that we wouldn’t have otherwise considered.

my advice is to start with a plan/layout. Unit sizes typically come in standard sizes. 30/60 cm wide. measure your kitchen and draw up a plan as to what fits where. i personally do no like the in store design service that some shops have. It can be very much a sales pitch situation. you can limited yourself early on if you are not careful. the way that corner space is managed varies. start looking at the usual sources. ikea/BandQ/homebase/wickes etc and then see what works best for you. diy is possible, but i know of only one supplier of work tops cut to size with proper joints. most folks go with a professional installation team.
