Kitchen revamp ideas on a budget

I have just bought a new house, and looking to change the look / feel of the kitchen, on a budget.

I have the option to paint the (paintable area!) of walls - though I actually like the white brick style tiles.

I imagine I'll have to keep the worktop (not sure how expensive these are to replace?) and flooring, but possibly have the option to replace or even just paint the cabinet doors.

Any suggestions or ideas on aesthetics or colour schemes for this small space?

The window is west facing,

I generally like cottagey style decor - real brick fireplaces and cosey neutrals - but also like quite modern / bolder styles and colours.

I have two young girls so want the new house to feel fun and happy - which is way beyond decor, but would be good if the decor could channel the right vibe! 😂

I feel like the kitchen is quite dark, and it is the first room you see from coming in the front door (no door to separate it from hallway).

All depends on budget, the worktops are the most obvious and first thing to look at replacing which will be anything from, 500 to 1500 (guesstimate) depending on quality of worktop and who fits it. Yes you can paint the doors yourself but getting someone in to respray paint them (lots of companies out there that do specialize in this, including myself) would give you a professional look. As for colour scheme, it’s personal choice, people constantly ask me for a colour and I have stop advising on the basis I get blamed when they don’t like. Anyone you get in to do the work should have colour samples readily available. I do think though that doing this will change the look of the kitchen completely, if budget stretches far enough replacing the floor with laminate or vinyl would further change things.

@Slawit sorry to derail the thread but what sort of guarantee do you offer when doors are sprayed. Mine is a Howdens kitchen in cream and I want to change it to a dove grey colour. Does it chip or fade over time?

I can only speak for the method I use, which I know if different to most companies.
I take the doors and any other panels I can physically take off without deconstructing half the kitchen back to the workshop to spray, this allows me to give them a good sand and degrease before respraying, I can also fill in the screw holes if customers want to change the handles for a different size or change them from a handle to a knob. Anything I can’t remove I will spray on site including the edge of the carcass, these are normally fairly clean areas which don’t require them same level of degreasing. This is quite time consuming and does take serval days turnaround, there is a lot of masking up before I can site spray and both the back and face of the doors have several coats of 2 pack paint. Most other companies that specialize in this sort of work generally respray the doors and end panels in situ and can be done in a couple of days, not sure if they do the backs of the doors or fill and holes. I have been using the same method for several years now and never had any issues, that said you can never fully guarantee you won’t get any chipping at all. As for fading again this has never been an issue.

@Slawit thank you.

The kitchen looks super practical but yeah, can see why you’d want to change the feel.

Not at all cottagy but I keep looking at this sheet vinyl as a fairly budget friendly kitchen option (it’s previewing the pink one, which I love, there are quite a few other colours though)

But I’m waiting to see if they have a January sale so not actually bought anything yet, or even asked for samples. The installation section says it is possible to lay their vinyl over tiles if you can’t remove them, but some prep is required.

How exciting to have a new home – hope you and your daughters are very happy there!
